Chapter 721
chapter721
By this point, Roseanne had figured it out. She was smack dab in the middle of a
scam.
The wiry middle-aged guy sneered, "You hear that, girlie? You've made a big mess today. You ain't walking away without coughing up some cash."
Roseanne smirked, "You're saying that tin box is a family heirloom? Do I look gullible to you?"
The tall skinny man chuckled along, "Well, not the tin box itself, but what's inside it. Since you're so skeptical, let's show you what we're dealing with."
The burly man popped open the tin box, revealing a pile of broken shards.
"See this? This vase has been in our family for generations, passed down for over a century!"
"This is genuine, priceless porcelain! Ever heard of that famous song about it? It's auction-worthy, even today!"
An old man, now steadied by his son, lit up a pipe. "Listen, miss, I know you didn't mean it, but this is a treasure to our family. We treat it like royalty and hardly dare to touch it."
Roseanne calmly countered, "If it's such a treasure, why was it out on the road in the middle of the night, stored in a tin box?"
The old man explained, "We're moving houses today, had to shift everything out. The porcelain is delicate, so we put it in a tin box for safety. We were waiting for a truck by the roadside, and then you suddenly swerved, and the box flew into the street. Lucky we jumped aside, or you'd be facing more than just a broken vase- you'd have three lives on your conscience!"
"Me? Made it fly? You must be
mistaken," Roseanne retorted icily. "My car was going straight the whole time. How could I hit something by the roadside? Unless
it was deliberately placed there to cause an accident."
"What are you implying? You think we're trying to scam you?" The wiry man barked, his voice booming.
Unfazed, Roseanne shot back, "Isn't that exactly what you're doing?"
"Alright, you're saying we're scamming you? Fine! That's exactly what we're doing! And unless you pay up, you ain't leaving!"
Roseanne's expression turned steely. "Since we can't agree, maybe it's best to get the cops involved. This street's got cameras, and my car has a dash cam. We'll know the truth soon enough."
The tall man's face fell at the mention of police, and his eyes darkened at the thought of the dash cam footage.

The old man chimed in again, "Young lady, let's not escalate this. We could've handled it differently, and of course, you have some responsibility too. Maybe just a token compensation? I'm too old to hassle a young girl, but my sons need to eat. So, what do you say..."
Roseanne discreetly took a step back, but the tall man noticed and moved closer.
"I think this is a job for the police," she said, pulling out her phone to make a call.
The tall man's demeanor instantly changed to rage as he snatched her phone away. "You little brat, thinking you can get away with this? What're you gonna do with that phone? I'm telling you, if you don't cough up fifty grand right now, I'll make sure that pretty face of yours isn't so pretty anymore!"
