Chapter 778
chapter778
She had seen a slice of human nature through her tenants, and was no stranger to the conflicts and tangled relationships between people.
Staying unaffected by the outside world? Easier said than done.
Scales mused, "Over time, I've realized that nothing is absolutely pure, and it's impossible to remain completely unaffected by other factors. It's like that philosophical idea-everything is interconnected, and individuals influence and interact with each other..."
Mamie felt her head spinning. "I think you should've majored in philosophy instead of biology."
Scales shot back, "Just eat your chicken drumstick!"
"Fine, I will! You were the one who said I could have it!"
Oh yeah, from being nine-tenths full, she was now hitting the perfect ten.
Scales just shook his head with a sigh.
After they finished their meal, Roseanne picked up the tab.
The trio decided not to head straight home; instead, they took a walk to digest their food.
"Good thing we all live in the same direction and not too far apart. Once we reach the school gate, let's grab a cab from there. It's on the way and it'll save us some cash. Ha!"
Scales teased, "Aren't you supposed to be a little landlady? And yet you're pinching pennies over a cab fare?"
Mamie, who had once gifted a car worth under a hundred grand without a second thought, now seemed adamant about saving a mere ten dollars on a cab.
"So what if I'm a landlady? Money doesn't grow on trees, you know! My dad taught me to be thrifty, make money, but also care for it. Save it when you can, spend it wisely, but never waste it!"
Roseanne nodded with a smile. "That's a valid point."
"Look at Roseanne here. Spending a fortune on a lab and yet living in a simple apartment. What's that called?"
Roseanne and Scales both turned to look at her.
Mamie puffed out her chest proudly. "That's called putting your money where it matters! Use your resources wisely."
Scales chuckled, "Alright, alright, I stand corrected. Lesson learned."
"Ha! Caley, you've got a lot to learn, kiddo!"
Suddenly, Scales stopped in his tracks.
Mamie's cheerful expression faded.
"What's up?" Roseanne followed their gaze and raised an eyebrow.
A bright yellow Ferrari was parked in front of Kingswell University's gates. The
color and the emblem were hard to miss.
But it was the man standing beside the car that stole the show.
Who else could it be but Murray?
However, with it being winter break and so close to the New Year, there weren't many students around to cause a scene.
Roseanne asked, "Why is Grace still at school?"
"Oh,
it. Edna has all her grad
JE you wouldn't believe
stuck
n campus. They can't leave until after New Year."
"Stuck? For what? Aren't both her labs under renovation?"
Mamie sighed, "Yeah, with no labs to use and no projects to continue, who knows
why she's keeping everyone here."
Roseanne just shook her head.
"Probably because she's miserable
and wants her students to be
miserable too. If it were me, I
would've bailed ages ago. Why stick
around?"
Scales pointed out, "You can say that because you've got the means to back it up."
Mamie had to admit, she was lucky to have financial security and didn't fear anyone.
Just like Hertha, who reportedly fled home before her project ended and never returned to campus.
Her project
submitted port was eventually
Sybil, who ended
being credited as the second

without lifting a finger!
Mamie sighed, "Poor Arkle, stuck with a mentor like that..."
Scales glanced over coolly, "Are you close with him?"
