Chapter 795
chapter795
Arkle was crying like a hundred-pound baby.
Truth be told, he had always known he didn't belong in Sybil's little clique.
Their disdain for him was as clear as day, no attempts to hide it.
Arkle had awkwardly tried to fit in.
After all, people are social creatures, and in an environment like this, anyone would rather stick together than go it alone.
Self-preservation is a basic human instinct.
Arkle was no different.
But he quickly realized that no matter how hard he tried, they remained on their high horses, never reciprocating any of his overtures of goodwill.
It was then he understood that some people can never be won over, and some circles are simply impenetrable.
So, he stopped trying and let things be.
When he heard about the upcoming competition, his first thought wasn't to join someone else's group but rather to think about what kind of project he wanted to work on and who he could team up with.
Because deep down, he figured Sybil wouldn't invite him into her group.
See, when you have no expectations, you can truly face exclusion and isolation with calmness.
But to his surprise, Sybil approached him with an olive branch.
Arkle was stunned and didn't immediately say yes.
Sybil figured he was just too thrilled to respond and walked away with a smug smile.
Arkle agonized over it for two days before finally mustering the courage to decide on a polite refusal.
But when he went to find Sybil-
She had already put his name on the team roster and sent it in.
"What's with that face? Letting you join is doing you a favor. Don't be ungrateful Slater chimed in,
"Exactly! We didn't really want you, but since we're classmates, we reluctantly added your name. You should be grateful!"
Without even the chance to refuse, Arkle became a member of Sybil's team.
He quickly reset his mindset, determined to do a good job, and diligently supported Sybil's work.
When she needed papers collected, he stayed up for three days and nights to gather everything.
Barely half a day of rest later, there was a new task at hand.
You could say that during this time, Arkle was even more exhausted than Carlson!
Carlson worked overtime, sure, but at least he got paid and could get a decent night's sleep.
But Arkle?
Sybil had him running around like a headless chicken, seemingly on call 24/7.
Seeing him, this big guy, curled up on the floor, looking so lost and dejected, Carlson couldn't help but frown, "Don't panic. Let me take a look at your project report."
Arkle blinked, "...What project report?"
"The final project report you're supposed to submit."
"I-I don't have one."
"What?!" Carlson was shocked, "How can you not have one? Each team member needs to submit a report even if they're identical, because the different names represent your individual contributions. Since Sybil put your name on the team, there should be a report with your name on it."
Arkle was bewildered, "But I really don't have one. Sybil just told me to gather the
materials, compile them for her, and she'd handle the report submission."
Carlson asked, "She didn't ask you to print a copy?"
"No."
"And none of the others mentioned it?"
Arkle shook his head again.
"Damn it!" Carlson gritted his teeth, his temples throbbing with frustration, "As per usual, after the results are announced, the reports are returned to the team members. By now, you should have received your copy back! Without the original, you should at least have a photocopy."
