Chapter 802
chapter802
Kingswell University, Administration Office-
"It's been two hours since the statement went out. What's the current public sentiment?"
"Why aren't you saying anything?!"
"It's...trending. Top of the charts."
The administrator nodded, unsurprised.
After all, with an accusation this explosive, the university's official response was bound to attract attention.
"And the direction?"
"...Not good."
"...What do you mean?"
"Everyone online is asking what's going to happen to Carlson. Whether he'll be able to graduate on time."
The administrator froze.
A suburban townhouse-
"It's over... Everything's ruined..." Sybil's face was ghostly pale, her whole body shaking.
Snapping out of her daze, she tossed her phone aside and dashed into the bedroom.
"Aunt Edna! Aunt Edna! Wake up-something's happened!"
Edna was sound asleep, barely stirring at the commotion.
"Aunt Edna! It's really bad!" Sybil, frantic, reached out to shake her awake.
Edna's eyes flew open. She slapped Sybil's hand away.
"Are you trying to kill me? Can't I get one good morning's sleep around here? Quit the shouting already!"
Sybil nearly burst into tears, her hand stinging from the slap, panic churning inside her.
Her voice shook as she pleaded, "The house is practically on fire and you're still sleeping..."
Edna sat up, exasperated. "How many times have I told you? Calm down! Just look at yourself-if you're not sobbing, you're wailing, and if not that, you're glued to the Couch scrolling on your phone..."
"Aunt Edna! Carlson reported them again!" Sybil stomped her foot, eyes brimming with tears.
Edna arched an eyebrow. "What, does he think the university forum is his personal playground? He can post all he wants. I can have it deleted just as easily. How na?ve."
"It's not the campus forum, it's Tik-"
"Hand me my slippers," Edna cut her off, gesturing at the foot of the bed.
Sybil hesitated, desperate to finish her sentence.
Edna shot her a cold glare. Their eyes met; Sybil shrank back and reluctantly fetched the slippers.
Edna slipped them on and left the master bedroom.
Sybil hurried after her. "Aunt Edna, this time Carlson didn't post on the campus forum. He posted on TikTok."
Edna paused mid-sip from her glass of water. "TikTok? What, is he that desperate for attention?"
"Calm down. You saw the post-just report it, say it's slander, harassment, spreading false information, whatever you like."
"Don't think just because it's the age of viral videos anyone will care. He can post whatever he wants, but if no one's watching, it's meaningless. Go report it and stop moping around the house all day..."
For a moment, Sybil felt a wave of helplessness. She couldn't shake the thought that maybe Carlson would win-because their opponent was just too arrogant, too blinded by her own confidence to see what was coming.
"That's not...that's not how it is..."
Edna wandered into the kitchen, scowling as she looked around, then stormed
back out. "Why haven't you made breakfast?"
Sybil didn't reply. Instead, she hurried to the living room, grabbed her phone, opened the trending page on TikTok, and thrust it in Edna's face.
Smack-
Edna slapped the phone away. "I asked why you haven't made breakfast, and you wave your phone at me? Am I supposed to order takeout now? Cat got your tongue?"
"Aunt Edna, just look for yourself!" Sybil shoved the phone back into her hands. Edna's temper flared. "You stubborn brat. Learned to talk back now, have you?"
She grabbed the phone, ready to toss it right back at Sybil's head, but as her eyes flicked across the screen, she froze.
Edna drew the phone closer, her attention finally caught.
