Chapter 719
Chapter 719
“As far as I’m concerned, all men have ulterior motives,” Desire hissed, her eyes fixed on the road. “If he has the audacity to take advantage of Boss while she’s down, I’ll drop a bomb on his front door tomorrow morning.”
Lara let out a weary sigh. “Will you relax? You’re overreacting. Boss gave him the necklace herself; the situation is out of our hands now. Our priority isn't Mason—it’s finding out who drugged her.”
Desire tightened her grip on the steering wheel, then pulled out her phone to remotely bypass the hotel’s security firewall. “It had to be a specialized compound for Boss to consume it unknowingly. When I find the culprit, I’ll make sure they spend the rest of their life wishing they’d never been born.”
Inside the presidential suite, the room was draped in heavy shadows, save for a thin sliver of light creeping in from the city skyline. Janet drifted awake, her mind a hazy fog. The first thing she saw was the sharp, defined lines of Mason’s abdominal muscles. Judging by the angle of the light outside, it had to be around three or four in the morning.
The sedative, which was supposed to knock her out for six hours, had been completely metabolized by her system in half that time.
She curled deeper into Mason’s embrace. Seeing his eyes closed, she reached out a trembling hand to trace the prominent, delicate features of his face. Just a few hours ago, I was certain we would have crossed the line, she thought, a spark of annoyance flickering in her chest. I can’t believe he’s just lying here! Does he really have that much self-control, or am I just not as attractive as I thought?
Suddenly, Mason’s eyes snapped open. He caught her wandering hand in mid-air, his breathing instantly turning heavy and labored. “You’re awake?” he asked, his voice thick and husky.
Janet froze, her heart skipping a beat as she met his gaze and nodded slowly.
“Good girl,” he murmured, his voice soothing. “Lie back down. I’ll go get you a glass of water.”
His words were incredibly sweet, but Janet searched his pitch-black eyes for a flicker of desire and found nothing but concern. Driven by a sudden, inexplicable need to prove her charm, she cast her pride aside and pounced, pressing her lips firmly against his.
In the darkness, Mason’s pupils constricted. To her shock, he gently pushed her back, leaning down only to press a chaste kiss to her forehead. “Be good, Janet. Sleep a little longer. Let me get that water.”
Janet blinked, stunned. I’m taking the initiative, and he’s still holding back? Under normal circumstances, he should have lost it by now!
Determined, she wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him back down. “I’m not thirsty,” she whispered, her voice low and firm. “Don’t go.”
Mason stared at her fair, slender legs locked around him. The dam finally broke. He pinned her against the mattress, his hot breath fanning across her face. “Are you serious right now?” he asked, his voice dangerously low.
Seeing the raw lust finally burning in his eyes, Janet let out a satisfied giggle.
“What’s so funny?” Mason asked, trying to remain calm. He was still worried the drug hadn't fully left her system.
“If I said I was serious...” She looked up at him, her gaze predatory and seductive. “Would you finally want me?”
Despite the playful tilt of her head, her voice was clear and crisp—the haze of the drug was gone.
“You aren’t thinking straight,” Mason advised, though his resolve was crumbling. “Lie down. You’ll regret provoking me when you’re lucid.” He tried to untangle himself, determined not to be a brute.
He pushed her leg away, but Janet was relentless. She pestered him, her tone turning cold and demanding. “Do you want me or not? Because the shop is closing. After tonight, you won't get another chance!”
Mason froze, his breath hitching as he stood rooted to the spot. When he didn't immediately move, Janet huffed in frustration and buried herself under the covers. Fine! If he wants to reject me, he can sleep on the floor!
