Chapter 14
Rodger's brow knit in frustration. What secret could Emilia possibly have? And why would he need to hear about it from someone he despised? Was Webster really trying to claim he knew more about Emilia?
After three years of marriage, Rodger was certain he understood her better than anyone. If there were any secrets, he would have heard them from Emilia herself, not from Webster. Clearly, Webster just wanted to rile him up.
"Secret?" Rodger scoffed, rollinghis eyes. "What could she be hiding that I wouldn't already know about? I don't need you playing messenger."
All patience gone, Rodger grabbed Webster by the collar, his voice low and dangerous. "Keep your distance from her, You'd be smart not to get involved."
"Why should I listen to you? Don't forget, the two of you are done." Webster only shrugged, his grin widening.
Watching Rodger squirm almost made Webster laugh. He found the whole thing entertaining-Rodger was completely in the dark about what he'd truly lost. It was a relief, honestly. If Rodger ever discovered the truth about Emilia, Webster was sure that he would probably spend the rest of his days under Rodger's thumb.
"We're still married until the entire divorce process is fully completed. So here's my advice-back off and keep your schemes away from her," Rodger warned, his glare sharp as glass. "Push me, and you'll regret it."
"That's cute." Webster let out a mocking laugh, rolling his eyes.
Rodger's eyes narrowed. "I hope you're listening."
Webster's grin faded. In a flash, he grabbed Rodger by the collar, eyes blazing. "You seriously think you matter? Face it, Rodger. Without Emilia, you're nothing but a shadow." Rodger completely missed the point, twisting Webster's words to fit his own paranoia-sure that Webster wanted Emilia for himself.
Rage boiling over, Rodger's fist shot out, smashing into Webster. The next second, both men were locked in a fierce scuffle, fists flying as the shouting grew louder.
All around the two, people stared in shock at the screen, which was livestreaming their fight, their jaws dropping as the confrontation unfolded.
"Whoa, what's happening? Are they really brawling over that woman? She must be something else to have those two at each other's throats!"
"Honestly, it's probably more about business than romance. Those two have been rivals forever. Anyone would lose it if their enemy ended up with a chunk of their company's shares."
"True, but let's not kid ourselves. She may have walked out, but the fight didn't stop. She's definitely a catalyst-none of this would be happening if she hadn't gotten involved." While the crowd kept up their speculation, Wilbur leaned in and spoke quietly. "Should we approach Ms.Harris?"
Before Elias could answer, the crowd erupted, pointing at the giant display.
"Look! Asclepius displayed his message!"
Every eye turned to the massive screen just as a new message appeared. It read, "The recipient for my treatment has been chosen. You'll be contacted in three days. Please remain patient."
Wilbur's brow furrowed. "No name, and now there's a three-day wait. Maybe we should reach out to Ms.Harris now, just in case. We can't risk someone else making her an offer first."
Elias nodded without hesitation. "Do it."
On the penthouse floor of The Gilded Fork.
"Say what you need to say." Emilia didn't waste time. Wilbur managed a bright smile and got right to the point. "Ms. Harris, I appreciate your candor-we actually do need your help." He then turned expectantly to Elias.
