Chapter 54
Emily wanted to design a piece of jewelry for the baby growing inside her.something that captured all her hopes and love. She even dreamed of creating a piece that would wow everyone, ensuring her design would be remembered for generations.
She gently rubbed her belly, feeling all the love and tenderness. Her thoughts drifted back to Patrick. She picked up her constantly buzzing phone and decisively hit the power button.
She didn't owe Patrick anything and was done clinging to him. Having this baby was her final act of love for him. She might forget him, but never the love she put into it.
Emily had no idea that as she drifted off to sleep, her face was streaked with tears.
Meanwhile. Shirley rushed back to the parking lot of Twilight Enchantment Lounge, clutching her car keys, but Patrick was nowhere to be found. Her heart pounded, and a wave of unease washed over her.
She frantically pulled out her phone and kept dialing Patrick's number, only to be met with the annoying voicemail message.
Shirley felt like she was lost in the dark, desperately searching for a sliver of light. She kept dialing over and over.
With each call she made, Liu Yangyang felt her heart plunge further into despair. 'How could Patrick, who drinks so much, just drive off? When did he leave? Was it because Emily showed up? It had to be! Only Emily could make Patrick leave! Emily! Why is it always you?!
Tonight, with Patrick drunk, was supposed to be Shirley's perfect chance. She even went to Twilight Enchantment Lounge to pick him up and carry out her plan, regardless of Vincent's mockery. But now. Patrick had vanished! She had to find him, she had to make him understand her feelings.
'Emily. I won't let Patrick go to you!' Shirley thought and slammed her bag hard against a car parked by the roadside. The loud alarm from the car startled her. She glared at the vehicle in front of her, as if it were Emily.
She truly couldn't figure out when Emily was with Patrick, he only had eyes for Shirley. Now that Emily was gone. Patrick's attention was back on Emily. Was his previous kindness to Shirley just a ploy to provoke Emily? No way! After finally driving Emily out of their lives, it seemed like Patrick's heart had left with her. The thought that Patrick might actually fall in love with Emily filled Shirley with an unprecedented sense of fear and despair.
Shirley slowly put the car key back in her bag. Then her fingers dug into the bag's compartment and pulled out a small bag of pink pills. This was her trump card, her last hope in desperate times. She didn't want to use it unless she had to. She kept dialing her phone until it died, then despairingly put it back in her bag.
At Hughes Manor
"Sir, that Maybach outside has been parked there for a while. It looks like Mr. Rivera's car. Should I invite him in?" The butler, Rex Green, knocked on the study door cautiously, standing at the door and asking respectfully.Rex studied Marlon's expression, feeling somewhat perplexed. Patrick had been coming and going at The Hughes's Family since childhood,as if it
were his own. When had he ever been this awkward? Could they have fought over a woman? Rex had a pretty good understanding of them.
Hearing Rex's words,Marlon felt extremely restless. He yanked the curtains open, as if he wanted to tear apart the world outside. Sure enough, there was Patrick, leaning against his car, chain-smoking like it was going out of style.
Even Marlon, who usually had a good temper, couldn't help but curse,“Patrick, what the hell are you playing at?" He couldn't wrap his head around why Patrick was acting this way, why he treated his relationship with Emily so carelessly. To Marlon, Emily was pure and kind, someone he wanted to protect and cherish. But Patrick treated her like she was disposable.
Marlon stared blankly out the window, cursing under his breath as he took a sip of his drink. "Is Patrick realy that thick-headed? Or is he just blind? How could he be so petty! He was standing at the door, refusing to leave, clearly suspecting that Emily was following me home."
"Forget about him," Marlon said impatiently. Rex hesitated for a moment before saying. "But Mrs. Hughes saw Mr. Rivera too. She asked if you had a fight with him."
Hearing that his grandma, Hannah Hughes, was aware of the situation made Marlon even more annoyed. He thought about her health, her love and care for him. Frustrated, he dialed Patrick's number. "Why are you waiting outside? Come up."
Marlon taunting words were intended to make Patrick feel miserable.
"Is Emily there?" Patrick's low voice came through the phone, sounding like it was coming from the depths of darkness, filled with exhaustion.
Hearing Patrick's subdued tone, Marlon couldn't help but smirk. He deliberately dragged out his words. "Why did you hit her today? Now you're asking about her whereabouts? Of course she's here!" He wanted to infuriate Patrick, recalling how painful it was to see the bruises on Emily at the company. How could Patrick do that?
Unable to control his emotions any longer. Patrick stormed into courtyard.grabbed a cigarette box, and angrily threw it at Marlon, who was standing upstairs with the phone, flipping him off.
"Patrick, you really disgust me. When she was with you, you never appreciated her. Now that she's leaving, you're desperate to find her.I genuinely care for Emily, but I won't hold her back like you. At least I respect her!" Marlon looked down at Patrick.
"You talk a big game! Didn't you take her to the Hughes Group? Don't think I don't know what you're up to. Marlon, you couldn't beat me in school, and you weren't as favored by the elders. Are you trying to prove your worth by taking Emily away?" Patrick clutched his phone, refusing to go upstairs or leave. He glared at Marlon with pure contempt, feeling like Marlon wasn't even in the same league as him. Patrick thought Marlon had no right to take Emily away from him.
