Chapter 89
Emily finally tracked down Shirley, who was grinning like a cat that got the cream.
"Well, look who decided to show up. Thought you might chicken out."Shirley taunted.
Emily shot her a frosty glare. "What do you want,Shirley?"
Shirley shoved a document at her. "I can't find this calculation formula anywhere. You must have a backup. Hand it over."
Emily, clearly irritated, glanced at the document. "I don't have a backup. I gave all the work to you and William. Figure it out yourself."
Shirley's expression turned sour. "You definitely have a backup. You just don't want to give it to me. Are you still thinking about crawling back to the Rivera Group?"
Emily's temper flared. "Shirley, you're out of line. I've left the Rivera Group for good. I really don't have a backup. Ask William."
Shirley bit her lip, seething. "Fine, don't give it to me. But remember, I can spill your secret to Patrick anytime."
A wave of fear washed over Emily. She knew Shirley wasn't bluffing."Why are you doing this? What do you want?"
Shirley's eyes burned with jealousy and anger. "I want Patrick. I can't let you have him. I'll tell Patrick about your pregnancy and show him what a schemer you are."
Emily was stunned by Shirley's venom. "Shirley, you're going too far.
There's nothing between Patrick and me anymore. Why are you so obsessed?"
Shirley sneered. "Nothing between you? You think being pregnant with Patrick's child means nothing? Just wait, I'll make sure Patrick sees your true colors."
Seeing Emily so upset that she couldn't speak, Shirley felt a sense of relief. It was as if all the frustration she had endured from Patricia had finally found an outlet.
Shirley watched her go, smirking. 'I won't tell Patrick about your pregnancy. You're the only one who thinks he'll make you get rid of the baby, idiot.
As Emily walked down the hallway, she weighed her options. Instead of letting Shirley control her fate, she decided to tell Patrick herself. She was determined to keep the baby, even if it meant Patrick rejecting her. After all,he was with Patricia now, and he probably didn't care about her feelings.
Just then. Emily saw Patrick coming out of his office. Nervous, she tried to avoid him, but it was too late. Patrick noticed her and looked surprised.
"Emily? What are you doing here?" Patrick asked.
Emily was conflicted and didn't know how to respond. "Shirley asked me to come."
Patrick frowned. "Shirley? What does she want with you?"
After a moment of hesitation, Emily said, "She said a calculation formula is missing and asked me to check if there's a backup."
Patrick looked confused. "Shirley is getting out of hand. You don't have to
deal with her. If she bothers you again, just refuse."
Emily nodded, feeling bitter. "Patrick. I need to talk to you."
Patrick looked at her. "What is it? Go ahead."
Emily struggled to find the right words, afraid of Patrick's reaction and being hurt again.
Just then, Patricia walked over. Patrick greeted her warmly, and Emily watched the interaction between Patrick and Patricia, feeling a twinge of heartache. It seemed that she was soon going to lose her place in Patrick's heart; his tenderness and smiles were now all directed at Patricia.
Suppressing her pain, Emily said, "Take your time talking, I have to go.Goodbye."
With tears in her eyes, Emily walked away, unsure of her next steps. She found herself on the rooftop of the Rivera Group, a place where she used to seek solace after being humiliated by Patrick.
Looking at the skyscrapers around her, Emily leaned on the railing, lost in memories of high school. Back then, Lucy was like a gem that outshone all others, radiating a captivating light. She was every boy's dream girl, her beauty etched in the hearts of all who beheld her.
Lucy had cascading golden hair, smooth and glossy in the light. Her eyes were clear and bright, sparkling with a playful glint whenever she narrowed them slightly in a teasing smile. Not to mention, her skin was porcelain-white,radiant, and flawless.
