Chapter 62

As the phone buzzed. Emily snapped back to reality. She glanced at the screen and saw Marlon's name. Quickly, she picked up.

"Emily, where are you? Did you deliver today's documents?" Marlon's voice came through.

"Mr. Hughes, I'm on my way, but I got stuck in traffic this morning."Emily replied.

Emily quickly hung up the phone and rushed backto the office to handle her work. It had been a terrible day. She felt a bit downhearted. Her response to Marlon the phone was clearly off. Marlon, being sensitive, noticed it.

"If you're not feeling well, you can rest at home and come back to work later. There's no rush!" Marlon comforted her gently.

“It's nothing, sorry, Mr. Hughes. I got delayed by some matters today,"Emily replied, feeling a bit embarrassed. She had just started working and had already slacked off, getting caught by Marlon. It was really too much.

“It's fine, just handle your things. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Emily, don't forget, besides being your boss, I'm also your friend.”Marlon emphasized the word "friend."

“Okay. I understand." After quickly finishing her tasks, Emily remembered that she had an appointment for a prenatal check-up at four in the afternoon. She hurriedly sent messages to Marlon and Melissa, then rushed to the hospital.

Melissa stood at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital, anxiously holding

various reports and past medical records. "Hurry up! If you don't come soon, I might just have to go in for the check-up myself!" Melissa exclaimed. urging Emily to hurry, but she was careful not to push too hard since pregnant women shouldn't rush.

"Did you get the bracelet?" Melissa asked curiously when she noticed Emily's strange expression.

"No.” Emily didn't know how to explain and just gave a perfunctory reply.

"What do you mean 'no'? Did you not find it? Or were you unable to get into the house?" Melissa asked as they walked. She knew that bracelet was the only thing Brian had left her. and she treasured it deeply. Back in college, she had even suggested trading her own jade bracelet for it, but Emily had refused. It had to be said that Brian was quite skilled; his craftsmanship was very fine and had an antique charm that Melissa loved. So, not being able to find that bracelet would definitely leave Melissa feeling regretful.

Seeing that Emily was silent, Melissa asked repeatedly, “Emily, what's wrong? Didn't you hear me?”

"It didn't go very smoothly." Emily finally spoke softly, explaining the situation.

"No way! Was it that intense? Didn't he always say that Shirley was like a friend to him?” Melissa asked eagerly. "Did you hear them doing anything in there?”

Emily shook her head. "They didn't have much time inside, so they probably couldn't get everything done. Just based on Patrick's condition..."

As soon as she said this, Emily's face turned as pink as a peach. She

suddenly realized that Melissa seemed to have never been in a relationship. What she was saying sounded quite risqué. She immediately fell silent.

"What? Based on what? What about Patrick's condition?" Melissa asked curiously, like a little child. Emily hurriedly covered Melissa's mouth with one hand and dragged her into the hospital.

"The baby is healthy. but you need to pay attention. You're both going to be mothers now, so don't perm your hair. try not to wear makeup. and avoid high heels. Also, stay away from crowded places and places with water. Oh. and don't live in newly renovated houses. got it?" The doctor treating Emily was an older gentleman.

Wearing reading glasses, he wrote notes on the medical records while giving instructions. Emily nodded at everything he said.“Hey,young lady,I've seen you many times. Why hasn't your husband come even once?"The doctor asked. and Emily felt a bit embarrassed.

"That's not good. Children need their fathers around. You know, the sound waves from the baby's father are extremely beneficial for the brain development of the unborn child, helping with their future abilities in shape recognition and logical processing." The old doctor adjusted his glasses and continued.

"No matter how busy work gets, you have to take care of both sides.Women shouldn't be too understanding; otherwise, men will easily take you for granted." The old doctor noticed that Emily bit her lip as she listened and shook his head slightly, sighing. It seemed he understood a lot in that moment.

Melissa looked between the doctor and Emily, unsure of what to say.Every word the doctor said was correct. Emily's grievances weren't caused by the doctor.

But she was still very angry. It was all Patrick's fault. All this embarrassment was caused by him. In Melissa's mind, if Patrick were a punching bag, he'd be getting a serious beating right now.
