Chapter 70

"What does it matter to you where I am?"

Emily recognized the person approaching and couldn't help but frown.

What a small world!'

'Running into him here, of all places. Damn it!'

She wasn't afraid of James, but she found him incredibly annoying now.

James's first reaction was to think Emily was trying to use Daniel to pressure him into marriage.

James's face immediately turned cold. "Emily, how long are you going to keep this up? I used to let it slide because you were young and naive, but now you're comnpletely out of line. You actually went to Daniel?Apologize to him right now and come with me."

He hurried forward, trying to drag Emily down from the second floor.

Emily knew the upstairs was Daniel's private space and didn't want James to break Daniel's rules because of her.

Before James could reach her, she quickly came downstairs.

To James, this meant she still cared about him.

Otherwise, why would she care about his feelings?

He reached out to grab Emily. "Come on, let's go. This isn't a place you can just wander into." Emily slapped James's hand away in disgust and walked over to Daniel. "Mr. Smith, everything upstairs is fine. Now, I need to check your pulse. If everything's good. York can start preparing the ingredients."

She handed York a list of ingredients she had prepared.

"Alright."

Daniel responded calmly and extended his wrist.

His long fingers and strong wrist showed he had a lot of strength.

Emily ignored James and sat next to Daniel, her delicate hand reaching to check his pulse.

"Emily, since when do you know medicine? Stop messing around..."

James's eyes flashed with surprise, followed by worry.

He thought Emily had lost her mind.

To go this far for herself.

Who was Daniel?

A ruthless, cold-hearted man.

He never knew Emily had any real medical skills, just some basic knowledge from a doctor. If she messed up Daniel's treatment, her fate would be worse than death.

He instinctively reached out to grab Emily's hand.

"Step aside!" The next moment, Daniel's icy glare shot towards him.

A simple phrase, but it made James's face turn pale, and he didn't dare move.

The atmosphere became eerily quiet.

Emily focused on her task, her long lašhes fluttering like fans.

James had never seen Emily so dedicated to something, and he was momentarily stunned.

Actually, it wasn't that he had never seen it; his attention had shifted to Emily without him realizing it.

His intense gaze caught Daniel's atention.

"Nothing serious, just follow the doctor's orders."

After a moment.

Emily released Daniel's wrist and gave her instructions.

James snapped out of his daze and quickly said to Daniel, "Daniel, Emily only learned a bit of medicine from a country doctor. She can't really treat you. Don't let her fool you."

Emily frowned.

Before she could speak, Daniel lifted his eyes, his gaze enough to intimidate. "Are you saying I'm too stupid to know better?"

"That's not what I meant. I just don't want you to let your guard down because she's my fiancée and get tricked."

"You're not that important!" Daniel's simple words were enough to cut deep. James's expression froze.

Emily almost couldn't hold back her laughter.

But it was clear to everyone that she was pleased.

James's face, already red with embarrassment, turned even redder as Emily laughed at him.

He glared at Emily with anger.

Emily glared back, unafraid, and deliberately reminded him,"Let me remind you, ex-fiancée."

James couldn't believe Emily would mention their breakup in front of Daniel. For a moment, he panicked.

Could she really mean it?

No,she loved him too much, saw him as her only support. She couldn't really want to break up.

This had to be a tactic.

"Emily, some things, if you say them too many times, they might actually come true. Then you won't be able to take them back."

James sneered.

Emily was clearly losing patience, "Do you not understand English? We broke up. It's not a joke. Stop deluding yourself!"

"And move, I need to cook."

She didn't want to waste any more words on him. James sneered at the idea of her cooking. Did she think she could impress Daniel with that?

"Don't embarrass yourself. Daniel has had the best of everything. He doesn't need you to cook for him.Come say goodbye to Daniel, and let's go!"

James stood his ground.

Emily looked at Daniel, shrugging helplessly. "Mr. Smith, as you can see, if this continues, tonight's dinner might not happen."

"James!"

Daniel's voice was stern as he called out James's name.

James instinctively straightened up, lookcing like a scolded child.′′Daniel, I'm sorry. I just know Emily too well, so I wanted to stop her. I..."

"My guest, and you think you can interfere!" Daniel's face turned cold.

James didn't dare respond.

Daniel wasn't done. "If you keep this up, your family's business might not be yours to inherit. And who taught you to cling to an ex-fiancée? Should I call your father?"

"No... Daniel, I'm sorry!"

James's face turned pale.

Before he was brought into the Smith family, there was an adopted son.

This adopted son was quite capable. Although his father valued bloodline, he valued the business and profits more. If his father knew Daniel despised him, he might hand the power back to the adopted son.

"Then I won't keep you any longer." Daniel's dismissal was blunt.

"Yes, Daniel, take care. I'll leave now."

James acted like a scolded puppy.

But before he left, he gave Emily a deep look when Daniel wasn't watching.

Emily ignored him.

After he left, Emily thanked Daniel. "Mr. Smith, thank you for standing up for me."

Daniel replied calmly,"No need to thank me. I was just teaching him a lesson for being so rude.

Emily thought of how he had scolded James for being ill-mannered and smiled. "He really is."

York came in with the new ingredients.

Emily took them to the kitchen.

Some dishes required simmering for a while so that it would take some time.

In the kitchen, Emily worked methodically.

In the living room, Daniel relaxed on the sofa with a newspaper.

He glanced at Emily's slender figure, the light casting a glow on her.

Peaceful times. Daniel thought of the phrase.

A smile tugged at his lips, and he relaxed even more.

Meanwhile, outside the villa, James's face was a dark shade.

He got intohis car but didn't drive off immediately.

After a moment, he couldn't resist dialing a number.

On the other end, Bianca saw the familiar number and smiled smugly.

See,as long as she wanted, even James would be hers.
