Chapter 864

chapter864

"Yeah," Teague replied, equally calm.

From a certain angle, the father and son looked remarkably similar at that moment.

Teague pulled his hand away from Kathleen's grasp and strode off.

As he passed his son, he paused to pat him on the shoulder before continuing on

his way.

Kathleen stared, stunned by the scene unfolding before her, at the calm demeanor of the father and son.

Suddenly, a realization dawned on her, and her eyes widened in shock.

"Corley! You knew all along, didn't you?!"

She rushed over, grabbing his arms and shaking him. "You knew, didn't you?!"

Corley nodded. "Yes."

"When did you find out?"

"I've always known."

"Hahahaha....." Kathleen burst into laughter. "So you all knew... You all knew... And I was the only fool! Bravo, my husband and my son! Treating me like an idiot!"

"Mom, people have to pay the price for their mistakes. Dad gave you a chance, but you didn't take it."

"Are you saying I deserved it?!"

"...If that's how you want to see it, then yes."

To handle Kathleen's situation, Teague went to the Rodriguez family home personally to inform the elderly couple.

After listening, Neely was silent for a long time before saying, "...Perhaps it's for the best."

Geneva added, "From now on, as far as we're concerned, Kathleen and Corley have nothing to do with each other."

"...Alright." It was the outcome Teague had expected.

Still, Teague wanted to ask, "What about me? What am I in your eyes?" But in the

end, he couldn't bring himself to say the words.

As he was leaving, Geneva walked him to the door.

Teague couldn't help but glance back inside.

"Madge isn't here. Don't bother looking," the old woman said calmly.

Teague gave a bitter smile and pulled his gaze away.

A flicker of pity crossed Geneva's

eyes but vanished just as quick met

"Teague you're a good man, but you and Madge it can never be You can only blame... fate's cruel twists."

"Fortunately, she hasn't suffered much over the past twenty years thanks in large part to Norris's care. After spending time with him we've grown quite fond of Nauris as a son-in-law. You..."

The matriarch paused. "...should let go. Deep affection is one thing, obsession is another. We don't want to see you trapped by a past that should have been forgotten, nor do We the peaceful life Madge and Norris have now to be disrupted. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

That last sentence was the real point.

Her preference and protectiveness were so obvious, extending even to Norris by association.

Teague's bitter smile deepened. "Don't worry."

He might have entertained such thoughts, but... Madge had suffered so much to finally have this peace, this reunited family. How could he bear to shatter it all?

So, let it be...

That night, at a bar, Corley wasn't surprised to see Teague.

It wasn't the first time, after all. He was the one who'd introduced his father to this place.

"Mind if I join you for a drink?" Corley asked.

Teague smiled and gestured for him to sit. "You know, it's been a long time since

we've sat down for a proper talk, just the two of us."

Corley glanced around the bar. "This hardly counts as 'proper."

"Haha..." Teague laughed heartily. "You're right. Improper it is, then."

Corley was silent.

"You spent New Year's Eve at the Rodriguez family's place. Roseanne was there too, wasn't she?"

Corley frowned, answering cautiously, "Of course she was. I posted a family photo online. Didn't you see it?"
