Chapter 15

Daniel knew it would be useless since he already had an argument with Hilda earlier. "Carmen, since she said she is okay, let's go and have it alone."

With that he held Carmen's hand, turned around and strode out.

Since Carmen had already achieved what she wanted, she stopped at the doorway, turned back and smiled as triumph flashed through her eyes before walking away.

After they left Hilda received a call. Looking at the caller Id,she frowned before answering. "Mother."

"You unfilial daughter. Don't call me that. Till when are you waiting to come back home? Hurry and come back home after work today. It is your grandmother's birthday." As soon as Amanda heard said this, she hanged up without waiting for Hilda's reply.

Looking at the phone which was hanged up, Hilda smiled bitterly.

In Daniel's office, Carmen's adorable face scrunched up sadly. She held onto Daniel's hand innocently while swaying slightly to soothe him. "I have always had a good relationship with Hilda. I am the one who took you away from her, and I feel really bad about it. Now that it seems like she won't forgive us,

I'm trying my best to let her forgive us as soon as possible. And I don't want to loose you too."

Daniel regarded the adorable girl in front of him and he was once again impressed by her kindness. He couldn't help himself and kissed her rosy cheek while speaking to her in a serious tone, "I have no feelings at all for Hilda. You are the only one in my heart, and you are the only person I'm going to love.

Carmen blushed before throwing herself into Daniel's arms. She pinched his chest playfully with her small fists. "Daniel you making me blush. Eat up lest it gets cold."

Setting the food up for Daniel, he started digging in immediately. At the same time Carmen added, "Don't forget that Grandmother's 70th birthday celebration his tonight."

Nodding Daniel replied. "Let's get her present later."

Soon working hours was over as Hilda prepared to head out to prepare a present for her grandmother. As soon as she walked out of the building, A man approached her. "Mrs.. Clemon,Boss asked me to give you this present so you give it to grandmother."

As soon as the man called her Mrs. Clemon Hilda blushed.Taking the present she took out her phone and called the number which called her earlier.

As soon as the call was connected a voice came from the other end. "Did you receive the present?"

"Erm yes. Thank you" Hilda replied.

"Hmm" Nathan was in the middle of a meeting when he received her call.

Noticing his voice was calm Hilda didn't say anything further and hanged up as she figured he was busy.

At the entrance of Golden Tulip Hotel, the venue of the matriarch of the Adams family's birthday banquet.

The whole hall of the hotel had been reserved for the grand occasion of the Matriarch's 70th birthday. Fifty tables were spread across the hall, which was bustling with activity.

Donned in a classic tailor made wear, the Matriarch was busy welcoming the guests at the reception area, accompanied by his two sons, Lewis and Michael.

"Compliments from the President of Sow Corporation, a Monet masterpiece with his message, Happy birthday to the Matriarch.

"Compliments from the President of Gulls Property Group,a century old Pine with his message, All the best wishes to the

Matriarch on his 70th birthday."

The staff at the reception announced the names of the guests and even the nature of their gifts and birthday messages.

When it came to Carmen and Daniel, the hotel staff read aloud."Compliments from the Director of Stephenson Group and Carmen, a blue and white porcelain vase from the Tang Dynasty, with their message, Best Wishes Grandma."

When it was Hilda's turn, the staff spoke with ridicule. "Compliments from Hilda, a tattered and old painting without an origin with her message, Happy birthday grandmother."

A tattered and old painting?

The words sent a burst of roaring laughter from the hundreds of guests in the hall.

This made the Matriarch see red. Her cheeks were puffed like two blobs of red paint as she stared at Hilda who had just come up to greet her heatly.

"What kind of sh*t are you giving me as a birthday gift Hilda?"The Matriarch spat out furiously.

"Don't get too worked up grandmother. This is a painting called Shan Shui. It is said to be a painting of mountain and river from the Tang dynasty in the..."

Hilda explained nervously when she saw the rage in the Matriarch's eyes but Carmen didn't allow her to finish her sentence before cutting her off. "Are you trying to say that this old and tattered painting is from the Tang dynasty?"

"Yes, that's what I said." Hilda replied.

An old looking, worn out box was thrown to the floor, right in front of Hilda. The painting came rolling out of the broken box.

It was Smith, the son of Michael Adams who had thrown the box to the floor.

"Look at this tattered painting you are giving us here." Smith scoffed. "Save it for yourself!"

Rage and shame were all over Hilda's face. Giving them a cold and hard stare before bending down to pick the painting he sneered. "This is a piece of treasure that you are throwing away."

"Huh? An old and tattered painting is a rare treasure? Save it for yourself. Haha!" Carmen snorted, while the rest of the guests laughed mockingly.

Taking the painting, Hilda found a random seat and sat down. With the phone in her hand she ignored everyone.

All eyes in the hall turned and stared at Hilda. While everyone

sat in the main hall and was socializing. Mrs. Adams came to pull Hilda away. "You unfilial daughter. What old painting have you gotten there eh? Come lemme introduce you to someone."
