Chapter 14
A few days back, when Sean asked Arthur for the invitations, he was right there with him. Alan was surprised to see Sean give them to Lily.
Sean just nodded, "Yep."He could tell that Ms. Worry-Free's designs were just as good as those big-name designers.
She just needed some recognition. Once people noticed her,Worry-Free Studio would be on the map for sure.
Arthur got up then. "I'm heading out."
On his way back, his phone rang. It was Ava.
Ava sounded super excited. "Arthur, I got an invite to the fashion gala!"
"We'll go together. Maybe we'll get lucky and meet Ms. Worry-Free,"Arthur said softly.
Ava was thrilled to hear Arthur would be with her.
Lily got back to Worry-Free Studio and saw Ella still there. She dropped two invitations in front of her.
Ella's eyes widened when she saw them.
Holding the invitations, she asked, "Where did you get these?"
"Sean gave themn to me," Lily said with a grin and repeated what Sean had told her.
"Who knew Sean was such a nice guy?" Lily raised an eyebrow at Ella's praise. "So, are we going or not?""Of course, we are. We can't pass up such a great chance."This was a big fashion design gala. Without Sean's help, Worry-Free Studio would have struggled to get an invite. This time, how many orders we get all depends on you," Ella said seriously to Lily.
Then she went to the table, sat down, and started sketching intently.
Seeing Ella so focused, Lily didn't want to disturb her and just sat quietly beside her.
An hour later. Ella held up the two invitations, looking pleased.
Hillside Villa, the gala venue.
Lily pulled Ella to the entrance, about to show their invitations when they heard a commotion behind them.
Ella turned and saw Arthur and Ava stepping out of the same Rolls-Royce.
Ava was clinging to Arthur's arm, wearing one of Ella's rush designs.
Ella's eyes stung at the sight.
Lily saw them too.
"Those jerks, watch me tear them apart," Lily said, ready to charge over. Ella quickly grabbed Lily, showed their invitations to the staff, and then pulled her into the villa. "Why'd you stop me?" Lily asked, annoyed. "They're so shameless, and you can just stand it?"Ella laughed, "Come on, don't get mad. Arthur and I are getting divorced anyway. Whoever he brings here is none of my business. Remember why we're here."
Even though she said it didn't matter, Ella's heart still ached.
After all those years of marriage, Arthur had never taken her to any gala. But with Ava, he was willing to break all the rules.
Ella gave a self-mocking laugh. He simply didn't love her.
They stood in a corner, watching Arthur and Ava walk in together.
They looked like the perfect match. Especially the diamond necklace around Ava's neck caught Ella's eye.
If she remembered right, that necklace was a new piece from Kismet Jewelry Creations,a one-of-a-kind, worth over five million bucks.
Ella had casually mentioned it before, but she never thought she'd see it on Ava.
"Let's head over," Ella said, taking a deep breath and smiling at Lily.
She walked past Arthur, feeling his intense gaze on her back. She didn't need to look to know it was him.
Ava noticed Arthur's distraction. "Arthur, what are you looking at
Arthur snapped back. "Nothing, let's go inside."Ava clung to his arm, and they walked in together. Ava shot them a meaningful look. She wasn't about to let anyone take the Mrs. Smith title from her. With a proper smile. Ava followed Arthur, greeting everyone they met.On the other side. Ella adjusted Lily's outfit. "Remember our goal today.Worry-Free Studio's reputation is riding on you."
Lily nodded seriously, and they shared a smile.
Ella had always focused on her family, so she wasn't as experienced in socializing as Lily.
This time, Ella was counting on Lily.
Her main job was to walk around in that dress, letting more people see their company's designs.
When Ava saw Ella, she could've avoided her, but instead, she dumped a whole glass of red wine on Ella's dress.
The dress was instantly stained, and Ella looked up, catching the smug look on Ava's face.
Since Ella showed up, she'd been drawing everyone's attention. Ava didn't want her stealing the spotlight.
Ella frowned and called out to Ava.
"Ms. Davis, you spilled wine on my dress. Shouldn't you apologize?" Ella's voice was calm but clear, and a few people around heard it. The chatter around them died down. The chatter around them died down. She then looked at Ella with disdain.′′Ifyou can't afford it, just say so.Why lie to us?"Daisy and Ava deliberately raised their voices, drawing the attention of those nearby.
