Chapter 67
Early morning.
The sun was just starting to peek through the curtains.
Ella opened her eyes and saw Arthur's sharp jawline.
She reached out and traced his outline in the air.
Asleep, Arthur didn't have his usual cold and ruthless look. His eyes were shut tight. missing that scary depth they had when open.
He looked so peaceful when he was asleep, with a light smile curling up his thin lips, as if he were having a sweet dream.
Arthur's long eyelashes fluttered a bit; he was about to wake up.
Ella quickly closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.
The next second, she heard a light chuckle above her head.
"Why are you pretending to sleep? Get up, we need to get ready. We're taking Grandpa home!"
Robert wasjust faking being sick in the hospital and could be discharged the next day.
Arthur and Ella were playing the part of a loving couple, helping Robert pack his things.
Just as they were leaving the hospital, Robert made a request.
"You both have work, and no one to keep Sofia company. She gets bored staying at home. Let's have a family dinner tonight!"
It was pointless; they were about to get divorced.
Seeing Robert's firm stance, Ella could only reluctantly nod.
They quickly headed back to the villa.
Fortunately, things haven't changed much at home. Ella helped Robert inside.
"Ella's back!"
Sophia heard the door open and ran over, looking surprised. When she saw Robert, her smile grew even bigger. "You came back together, why didn't you say so earlier!"
"Grandma, we wanted to surprise you!"
Ella helped Robert sit down and then sat beside Sophia.
After a few days apart, Sophia missed Ella a lot. "It's only been a few days, and you've lost so much weight!"
"Grandma, only you say that I've lost weight. Actually, I've gained some!"
"Now that you're home, I'll cook some big meals for you these days!"
Sophia looked at Robert as she spoke, "Robert, I'm sorry, Ella's been married for a few years now, but she hasn't had a child!"
Robert's eyes lit up. "No rush, they're still young. Spending more time together will surely lead to a child!"
Talking about great-grandchildren, the two of them went on and on.
Robert shared many nutritious recipes, and Sophia decided to cook
delicious food for them every day to nourish their bodies.
It was unbearable to listen to, so Ella quietly walked into the kitchen and breathed a sigh of relief.
The maid beside her couldn't stop laughing. "Scared? Old folks are like that. If you go along with them and have a child early, everything will be fine!"
Footsteps approached; it was Arthur.
"With you two here, I'll leave you alone," The maid teased and quickly left the kitchen.
Arthuar asked. "Are you happy being urged to have a child?"
"What?"
Ella turned around, looking puzzled.
Arthur impatiently tugged at his tie. "Whether it's Grandma or Grandpa.they both have this idea. What about you? Why don't you oppose it?"
"Why don't you oppose it!"
Ella almost laughed in anger. She glared at Arthur. "If you find it annoying, let's go get a divorce certificate right now!"
No one liked being urged to get married or have children.'
But with two elders, what could she,as a junior, say?
Feeling wronged for no reason, her anger kept rising.
"Let's go!"
Ella grabbed his arm and started to walk out.
Arthur forcefully shook her off, frowning. "Enough! Stop throwing a tantrum!"
After all that, this was the only response she got.
A deep sense of helplessness washed over Ella. She took a few deep breaths and then spoke calmly, "Everyone's here today; I plan to cook myself! I'm going to buy groceries!"
Without looking at him, she walked out.
In the car. Ella looked at Arthur in confusion. "Where are you going?"
"To buy groceries! Grandpa asked me to follow you," Arthur said as he stepped on the gas pedal.
The two of them went on a big shopping spree, buying all of Robert and Sophia's favorite foods. By the time they got home, it was almost noon.
Time was tight. and there was a lot to do.
Ella and the maid were super busy in the kitchen.
Robert glanced at Arthur, who was sitting by the computer replying to emails, and his eyes turned cold. "Arthur, you jerk, can't you see they're busy in the kitchen? Go help!"
"No need, this is Ella's duty, no need to trouble Arthur," Sophia quickly spoke to stop him.
Arthur looked up and gently closed the computer. "T'll go help."
In the kitchen, Ella was washing vegetables and cooking at the same time.
feeling lke she could use an extra pair of hands.
The maid beside her was making soup.
Seeing Arthur come in. Ella looked up in surprise. "What are you doing here? Get out!"
He couldn't help and would only cause trouble.
Arthur, feeling rejected, paused for a moment, then turned and grabbed the spatula from Ella's hand. "I can cook!"
"Fine. then you do it!" Ella didn't say much and continued washing vegetables.
Soon, the kitchen was filled with thick smoke, making everyone cough.
Ella turned around and saw the beef in the pot burning. "Quick, the food is burning!"
The perfectly good steak was now charred and inedible.
Arthur stood there with the spatula, stunned. "What do we do now?"
"Of course, turn off the heat!" Ella was anxious, quickly turning off the heat and opening the window.
The kitchen was filled with smoke, and everyone started coughing simultaneously.
"I told you to get out, but you insisted on showing off!" Robert loved steak the most.
Ella had planned to show off her cooking skills, but now, it wasall ruined.
Ella, with a sullen face, threw the steak into the trash can and put the pot under the faucet.
"It's just a steak, no need to get angry!" Arthur looked at the oil stains on his white shirt, his face dark and displeased.
Usually. Ella would have gone to comfort him.
But now, there was nothing left to say between them.
They were getting divorced; who would want to comfort their ex?
Ella continued to scrub the pot, busy and relentless.
Arthur stepped forward and grabbed the pot from her hand. "Can't you see? I got burned!"
Oil had splattered, not only on his clothes but also on his wrist.
He extended his arm in front of Ella, the burn marks on it particularly noticeable.
Ella glanced at it. "Go take a shower and change your clothes, I'll clean up the kitchen!"
There was no concern in her words.
Arthur gritted his teeth. "You're something else!"
With that,he turned and left.
The maid, who had been scared and hiding in the corner, finally spoke up after Arthur left, "Mr. Smith is terrifying when he's angry!"
"It's nothing," Ella didn't say much and continued cleaning up.
With the steak gone. she had to use other ingredients.
Fortunately. Ella was a good cook, and with the maid's help. they quickly prepared a table full of delicious dishes.
At the dining table, looking at the spread. Robert praised repeatedly,"Ella's cooking is excellent!"
"Of course, Ella is the best. She has been great since she was a child. The children she has in the future will surely be smart and beautiful."
