Chapter 1355

chapter1355

Devon let out a heavy sigh, gesturing for Mirabella to step out first as he muttered, "It's a long story... But Presley, he's just bad news."

Presley was indeed Presley's name.

Devon briefly touched on how Presley had coerced David into temporarily handing over the leadership role to him.

After hearing this, Mirabella furrowed her brows and asked, "Is David unwell?"

Devon nodded, looking worried, "His old condition flared up again, and Presley even held back his medication... So, Master isn't in the best mental state right now."

Mirabella narrowed her eyes, thinking for a moment before saying, "I'll go check on him."

Devon knew Mirabella was good at making remedies but wasn't sure about her medical skills. Since David hadn't mentioned it, he assumed she just wanted to visit, so he replied, "Alright."

Half an hour later, Mirabella arrived at David's place.

It was a house with a rich history, nestled in the old part of town.

But Mirabella didn't take much time to look around and quickly followed Devon into David's bedroom.

"David just took some medicine and might not wake up soon," the butler, who had been looking after David, whispered to Devon.

Devon glanced at David, who was resting with his eyes shut, and frowned, "Did he take sleeping pills again?"

The butler nodded, "He said he was feeling needle-like pains all over, and the painkillers didn't work."

Devon pulled out the medicine Grant had given him earlier, "I've got the medicine back."

The butler's face lit up, "That's great news."

Devon nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Mirabella, listening to their exchange, moved closer to the bed. She first checked David's complexion and then gently took his hand out from under the blanket to feet his pulse.

She frowned as she checked.

Seeing Mirabella's actions, Devon immediately stopped his conversation with the butler and quietly walked over. Once she withdrew her hand, he softly asked, "How is he?"

Mirabella tucked the blanket around David before standing up straight, "His pulse is weak, like a candle burning out."

Devon's face fell, "How can that be? Master is just stressed because of the association's issues. How could he be so worn out..."

Mirabella glanced at David, then her eyes landed on the medicine bottle in Devon's hand. She didn't answer his question directly but said "Let me see the medicine you're holding."

Devon quickly handed her the bottle.

Mirabella took out a pill, sniffed it carefully, and had a sense of what was going on. She put the pill back in the bottle, "Has David been taking this medicine for a while?"

Devon nodded and asked, "Is there something wrong with it?"

Mirabella shook her head, "The medicine itself isn't the issue. But taking it long-term can build up a slow-acting toxin, especially in someone whose body is already weak. This toxin slowly saps his vitality."

Devon was taken aback, "A slow-acting toxin?"
