Chapter 1908

chapter1908

Mirabella squinted slightly, and as soon as Asa took a step back, she didn't hesitate to pull the trigger. The bullet lodged itself in his body, yet it didn't halt his actions. This update is available on ?ovelFind.net

A few seconds ticked by, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary in the lab, as if Asa's actions were nothing more than a bluff.

It was too calm-eerily so.

Meanwhile, the other two doctors who had been grappling with James suddenly turned pale. They no longer paid any heed to James and stumbled toward the exit, as if fleeing from some monstrous threat.

Mirabella frowned, sensing that this unsettling calm hid a genuine danger. She caught James's eye and silently mouthed a single word: "Go."

"None of you are leaving today," Asa said with a sinister grin, leaning against the wall. Even on the brink of death, his madness remained undiminished.

Unable to complete his experiment, he intended to take the world down with him.

Mirabella turned back, noticing the overhead lights dimming and a faint white mist beginning to seep into the air.

This is... Mirabella's expression shifted abruptly. She grabbed James's hand, and they bolted.

As they burst into the corridor, the mist thickened. The two doctors who'd fled earlier were now writhing on the floor, their screams piercing the air.

Seeing this, they retreated back into the lab.

"It's a virus," James said, his voice steady but serious as he eyed the mist.

He could already feel a burning sensation in his lungs, and speaking only intensified it. But with his stronger constitution, he could still manage for now.

Besides the massive destructive power of mechanical weapons, biochemical weapons were banned for a reason; their potential for devastation was immense. And the Arango family was known for dabbling in biochemical research.

"We can't let these viruses spread," Mirabella said with a newfound gravity in her eyes. She reached into her pocket, producing a small pill bottle for James.

James opened it to find just one pill inside.

"These viruses won't harm me for now," Mirabella assured him.

Understanding Mirabella's unique constitution, James didn't hesitate. He swallowed the pill quickly. "What's the plan?"

"My medicine only buys us a few minutes. You need to get out of here; I have to head to the control room," Mirabella explained.

She didn't know the exact threat the biochemical viruses posed, but given the doctors' dire state in mere seconds, they were clearly lethal. If they spread, it would be catastrophic.

Mirabella hadn't forgotten Asa's chilling smile before his demise.

"If it lasts a few minutes, then we go together," James insisted, his resolve

unyielding even though he knew of Mirabella's abilities.

Mirabella locked eyes with James, his gaze firm and unwavering.

Just then, Wyatt's anxious voice crackled through their earpieces, "Ms. Mirabella,

we finally got through to you. What's your status?"

Ever since Mirabella had entered the building, her communication had been spotty. Especially after the gunshot, Wyatt had been on edge, almost bursting in himself.

"Keep a helicopter on the rooftop for extraction. Everyone else, evacuate immediately," Mirabella instructed calmly, stepping into the thick mist.

"Understood," Wyatt replied, slightly relieved despite the uncertainty inside. He quickly passed the orders to his team.

Soon, their forces began retreating, leaving only a helicopter circling above.

Wyatt took one last look at the old, weathered building, tightened his grip on the steering wheel, and floored the gas. He trusted Ms. Mirabella to bring James out safely!

Meanwhile, Mirabella and James headed straight for the main control room, the mist growing thicker with each step. Fortunately, the control room was just on the basement level, and they reached it swiftly.

As Mirabella raised her wrist to hack the door lock, it suddenly swung open. Her hand paused mid-air, and she glanced up to see a tall, burly man standing there. "You're here."

The man wore a protective mask, his deep-set eyes the only visible feature. It was as though he'd been waiting for Mirabella.

Mirabella locked eyes with him, her tension easing instantly, and she called out his name, "Hartlee."

The man gave a slight smile, stepping aside to let her and James into the control

room.

Inside, the control room was clear of mist, a temporary safe haven. Mirabella and James entered, noticing several uniformed individuals sprawled on the floor.

Raising an eyebrow in realization, Mirabella turned to Hartlee, "You've been here the whole time?"

"Yes," Hartlee nodded.

Mirabella's eyes flickered with understanding. No wonder her entry had been unusually smooth. But now wasn't the time for explanations.

Her gaze settled on a console screen flashing a red exclamation mark, a countdown timer ticking away rapidly.

"You should leave while you still can," Hartlee sighed, not expecting the self-destruct mechanism to be activated. "The biochemical virus is just an appetizer; there's a bombin this building with unpredictable power."

"Then staying might be the only way to save ourselves," Mirabella said with a wry smile. She moved to the console, kicked a chair over to sit, and started typing rapidly.

The countdown was at one minute and thirty seconds.

"I tried to alter the self-destruct program before, but I couldn't..." Hartlee trailed off, watching Mirabella hack through layers of code with astounding speed.

Was she some kind of miracle worker? Wasn't she just a thief with a knack for gadgets and principles? How had she mastered computer programs too? Hartlee realized he knew too little about his online friend, "Bald Baby Genius.

Her skill level was leagues beyond his.

Hartlee remembered warning Mirabella about the Shepherd family, but seeing her skills firsthand, wiping her digital trace seemed like child's play.

Hartlee pondered this, stealing a glance at the man beside Mirabella.

If he wasn't mistaken, this was the head of the Shepherd family. Did he know the woman they'd been hunting with a hefty bounty was right there?

James sensed Hartlee's gaze. He turned slightly, his face cold and commanding, radiating an aura that screamed "back off." Hartlee gave a nervous laugh and quickly looked away.

He was just a nobody, blissfully unaware of the complex drama unfolding. Mirabella, oblivious to Hartlee's internal drama, focused intently on the monitor. The self-destruct program was indeed tricky, and she knew who had crafted it.

Her gaze darkened, fingers flying over the keyboard, but each attempt to crack the final core program met with failure.

"Something's wrong," James suddenly spoke up.

Mirabella's fingers paused.

James scanned the room before striding toward a nearby wall. A metal clock hung there, and upon closer inspection, its time didn't match the computer's the clock was five seconds fast.

Mirabella watched as James dismantled the clock's casing, exposing the inner workings. "Is there something wrong with it?" she asked.

James didn't respond immediately. He carefully removed the minute and hour hands, revealing a tiny coil hidden inside. "The computer but the
