Chapter 1892
chapter1892
James pulled his gaze back from the doorway and glanced at Wyatt. "Remember that archaeological team that vanished last year?"
Wyatt took a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, I remember."
Last year's expedition had been a disaster, with heavy losses and even Trevor getting seriously hurt. Wyatt wasn't quite sure why James was bringing it up now.
"Think it might be connected to this?" Wyatt wondered aloud, nudging for more information.
James drummed his fingers lightly on his knee, his expression unreadable. After a pause, he said, "This place lines up exactly with the direction of the forest where they disappeared last year."
Wyatt immediately pulled out his phone to check the map. He could still recall the spooky location where they'd found Trevor last year. He and Curtis had even talked about how weird it was since it didn't show up on any map.
Comparing the two points side by side, it was clear they were in the same area— one to the north, the other to the south, although a bit apart.
Wyatt looked up, his surprise evident. "It's really the same place. I didn't notice at all on the way here."
"Different entrances make it easy to miss," James remarked casually.
"True." Wyatt ran a hand through his hair. "I remember the archaeological team's mission was to find..."
He broke off suddenly, eyes wide like he'd seen a ghost.
James glanced at him. "What?"
After a moment, Wyatt handed his phone to James. "Suddenly, I've got a signal."
His phone had been showing 'no service' all along, and now it was full bars-too strange for words! Wyatt rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things, and suddenly it clicked that this was why he'd been able to open the map app earlier.
"It wasn't sudden. We've had a signal since entering this village," Miles corrected from nearby.
"Really?" Wyatt turned to him.
"If I'm right, this village has its own satellite signal station. It doesn't link to the
outside world but functions independently," Miles observed, still amazed.

Wyatt's mind buzzed with
possibilities as he listened to Miles. After a couple of minutes, his eyesz narrowed, and he turned to James
again
as if he had a revelation on the tip of his tongue. "Wasn't the Archaeological Society looking for a time-travel device last year? Could it be real?"
The had a revelation on
A peculiar village, a creepy forest, and the Stevenson family... Wyatt felt his imagination spiraling out of control.
"A time-travel device?" Miles zeroed in on what Wyatt said. "Is that even possible?"
"I don't know," Wyatt shook his head, pondering a bit before adding, "But sometimes there's a grain of truth in rumors."
The strange quirks of this village were already enough to challenge the norm.
Meanwhile, outside, Mirabella took out her phone and switched to computer mode. Her fingers flew over the virtual keyboard, her brow furrowing deeper with concentration.
