Chapter 1796
chapter1796
Mirabella had already filled James in on the Davis family's assessment happening today. Normally, he wouldn't call unless it was important. Just seconds after, Mirabella got a message back.
"The person you had tailing Nellie disappeared near the first base this morning."
Mirabella didn't reply right away. Instead, she got up and walked out of the training grounds.
Penelope noticed Mirabella leaving abruptly and narrowed her eyes slightly, but soon refocused on the competition.
After stepping out of the training area, Mirabella asked around a bit, then headed to the restroom. Once inside, she closed the door, flushed the toilet, and took out her phone, switching it to a virtual computer mode.
Earlier, Mirabella had installed a tracking app on Nellie's phone, making it relatively easy to trace her location. Soon, a virtual satellite map appeared.
The signal where Nellie was seemed heavily obstructed, making an exact location hard to pinpoint. But Mirabella was sure Nellie had entered the first base.
Mirabella's long lashes lowered slightly, her eyes deep in thought. She switched her phone back to its regular mode. Just then, another message from James popped up.
"Curtis is at the first base. I've got him keeping an eye on things."
Mirabella sighed with relief and replied, "Okay."
James: "Are you done with the assessment?"
Mirabella: "Not yet, shooting's in the afternoon."
James: "Good luck, my future heiress."
Mirabella rolled her eyes, "Don't want the title, thanks."
James chuckled on his end.
Ending their chat, Mirabella took
moment to think, then logged into The Mirror to check on one of
few friends there. The friend wasn't
online, so she left a message. s
When Mirabella got back to the competition site, the current round had just wrapped up.
"Hey, where'd you go?" Nick asked, sounding a bit worried since he didn't see her earlier.
"Just went to the restroom," Mirabella replied casually, her eyes briefly resting on his left hand on his knee. His sleeve covered most of it but she could see the redness and broken skin; his hand trembled slightly. It was clear his whole arm was injured. s
Mirabella narrowed her eyes a bit before looking away, her voice steady, "You won, right, Nick?"
"Of course, I'm tough too," Nick said, instinctively tugging at his sleeve. He felt a bit relieved she hadn't been there earlier to see the darker side of competition. Discover more novels at find?novel.net
But then he glanced over at Penelope, who sat with her usual cold, disdainful expression, as arrogant as ever. A mix of emotions passed through Nick's eyes.
The final competition between the heirs wrapped up by noon. With the shooting set for the afternoon, Nick took Mirabella to lunch right after.
Near the training base, there was a members only restaurant, part of the Davis family's business. In the
private dining room, Nick let
Mirabella pick the dishes before stepping out. s
Outside, Reid was waiting and stepped forward as Nick approached. "Mr. Nick."
Nick nodded and gestured towards the room next door, and they both went in.
"Mr. Nick, your hand?" Reid asked, concern in his eyes, quickly pulling out the medicine he had brought along.
