Chapter 1858

chapter1858

The elder was flipping through the contract, each page stirring up more turmoil inside him. He snapped it shut, leaning against the conference table, his fingers gripping tightly. He could barely believe what he was seeing.

They'd assigned Miss Mira the Ravenshade task, banking on the complex forces behind it, sure she wouldn't seal the deal quickly. But to their shock, not only did she sign it, but she also added extra projects, practically gifting them to the Davis family.

The elder couldn't pinpoint where things went off track, but he sensed things slipping beyond their control. Next to him, Jaime noticed his troubled expression and grabbed the contract to have a look.

"This contract..." Jaime was just as stunned, but seeing the signatures and seals, he couldn't bring himself to say it was fake.

"Mr. Jaime, is there an issue with the contract?" Reid asked, feigning surprise.

Jaime stiffened slightly, then set the contract down. "Seems like it's all in order."

"Great," Reid said, exhaling as though relieved. "I thought you might have ions."

Jaime: "..."

The tension in the room thickened. Reid glanced around and then quietly returned to stand behind Grady.

The elder collected himself, pushing his thoughts aside, and instructed the secretary to calculate Mirabella's score based on the guild's point system.

Two minutes later, he held the results, his expression darkening. Mirabella was nearly a thousand points ahead. This gap was due to the additional projects in the contract. Without them, she'd be neck and neck with Penelope. The elder looked up, his voice steady as he announced, "Based on the combat and shooting rankings from the first round, and the

comprehensive score from the second, the top three are Miss Mira, Miss Penelope, and Mr. Nick. The successor will be chosen from them."

He paused, signaling for paper and pens to be handed out. His gaze swept the twenty or so executives and he added, "Your votes will shape

consider carefully before casting your vote."

Though his tone was formal, a warning was clear in his words. Some had already chosen in private, and while Grady's appearance was a curveball, it didn't change much. With Keits fate uncertain the elders held the reins, and the successor was practically decided. Even if Miss Mira was genuinely capable, she lacked support. Many picked up their pens to write down their choice.

Just then, a commotion erupted at the council room door. The guild's office director burst in, looking anxious.

The elder frowned, sharply reprimanding, "Get out! Can't you see we're in the middle of a meeting?"

The director hesitated but stood his ground. "There are some important guests downstairs..."

"I don't care who it is, we're not seeing anyone now," the elder interrupted, his patience thin. One Grady was enough; he didn't want any more surprises.
