Chapter 1775
chapter1775
Jaime flashed a quick smile before continuing, "Last night, Mr. Nick stepped on the Earl's toes over Miss Mira. Our Davis family doesn't need an heir who can't see the bigger picture."
Penelope squinted but didn't jump in right away.
"I heard Keir was pretty close to his niece," Jaime paused for effect. "So, think it over, Penelope. Is power more important, or the so-called 'worthless' act of caring?"
Penelope's fingers curled up reflexively. After a beat, she responded coolly, "I'll act like I didn't hear any of this today. And let's not bring it up again."
With that, Penelope walked out of the small conference room.
Once she was gone, the elders exchanged knowing looks.
"Penelope's too headstrong. She might be tough to handle down the road," one elder finally said, frowning.
"You're mistaken," Jaime leaned back lazily in his chair, eyeing the elder. "Someone with her spirit is the sharpest tool we have."
Penelope was fiercely competitive; she wouldn't let anyone threaten her position.
So, about Keir's niece... well, this could get interesting. For original chapters go to Find1Novel.net
Jaime's eyes sparkled with intrigue as he looked up and suggested, "Maybe it's time to kick off the heir assessment. What do you all think?"
Penelope stepped out of the guild building.
Her trusted aide was already waiting with the car, holding the door open for her. Noticing her sour mood, he asked, "Miss, did something happen?"
Penelope just shook her head, saying nothing as she slid into the car.
The aide closed the door, climbed in, and started the engine.
"Miss, are we heading back to the estate, or...?" he asked as they pulled onto the road.
Penelope pulled her gaze away from the window, took out her phone, and sent a quick message. A few minutes later, she got a reply.
She looked up and gave her aide an address.
**Meanwhile, over at the Earl's estate...
Murray had just come to. The bullet lodged in his chest had nearly done him in last night, but Asa's
quick thinking and life-saving e
antidote kept him hanging on until Surgery could save him. s
Listening to his secretary's report by his bed, Murray, in a fit of anger, knocked a lamp off the nightstand only to regret it as pa shot through his chest, turning his face ghostly pate. s
"Failed? What were they even doing?" he barked.

The secretary stood still, shaking his head with a rueful smile. "I didn't expect Nick
from the Davis family to throw caution to the wind and surround the place."
Murray closed his eyes, trying to ride out the wave of pain. "He's completely unhinged!"
"The real issue is that the authorities
might think we staged last night's sniper attack. If we don't handle this right it could be a big blow to our estate," the secretary said, his voice laced with worry. s
A foolproof plan, yet it all unraveled so quickly.
They had hoped to make James owe them a favor.
"There's more. Leon's shadow guard was killed in the lounge where the prince was entertained. It's likely that Davis family girl was hiding in there too," the secretary added.
Lockie, being the rightful royal heir, had a special status. No one dared to bother him, let alone launch an investigation.
Hearing this, Murray's eyes narrowed. "Does Lockie know that girl?"
