Chapter 1825

chapter1825

That night when she went to see him, things seemed to be on the mend. So how did everything take such a nosedive? Nellie's mind was a whirlwind of confusion, her thoughts buzzing relentlessly. In the reflection on the car window, she caught a glimpse of her own distressed face. Mirabella's eyelashes fluttered slightly before she turned back with a wry smile. "Chester never really had a strong will to fight. It's no surprise things got worse."

Hearing those words, Nellie felt like she'd been dunked into an icy pool, shivering involuntarily. It wasn't even winter-so why did it feel so cold? She hugged herself tightly, trying to find some comfort. Mirabella noticed but kept quiet.

An hour later, they finally pulled up to the hospital. Mirabella glanced outside, then turned to Nellie with a soft voice, "You should head up too. Just in case... you might want to see him one last time." Nellie's eyes stung as she looked up, "Alright."

Seeing her agree, Mirabella gave herself a mental pat on the back. Her acting skills were definitely worth the generous gift Chester had given her. She did wonder, though, if Chester would be caught off guard by this unexpected turn. Discover more novels at find·novel·net

Nellie stepped out of the car, dazed and unaware of Mirabella's expression. The three of them entered the hospital and rode the elevator up. When the elevator doors opened, Reid, who was standing nearby, looked up. Spotting Mirabella, he quickly walked over, "Miss Mira." Reid greeted her with respect, his gaze briefly showing surprise when he noticed Nellie.

Mirabella nodded slightly, simply saying, "I'm going to see Chester." Reid nodded back, not questioning Nellie's presence. He knew that anyone Miss Mira brought along had to be trustworthy.

Soon, they walked down the corridor to Jim's room. At the door, Grady was on the phone. Hearing footsteps, he turned around, and seeing Nellie next to Mirabella, his hand shook, almost dropping the phone. Grady quickly hung up the call, stepping forward in disbelief, "Nellie?"

Nellie looked up, her voice raspy, "Grady, it's been a while." Grady stood still, feeling like today was filled with more surprises than he'd had in a lifetime. First, it was Miss Mira's stunning performance in the herrassessment, and now seeing Nellie... Grady clutched his chest, overwhelmed, "I can't believe you're really alive."

For years, Keir never stopped looking for Nellie. Even when told she was gone, he held onto hope. His determination kept him single waiting all these years. "Yeah, I'm still here." Nellie's voice carried bitter edge. She didn't elaborate, just glanced toward Jim's room, "How's Jim doing?"

"Keir, he..." Grady started, but a look from Mirabella made something click, "It's

not looking good." Nellie swayed slightly. Grady sighed, "You should go in and see for yourself."

Suppressing the bitter taste in her throat, Nellie rasped a quiet, "Okay." She quickly pushed the door open and stepped inside.
