Chapter 1816
chapter1816
This interference signal was all too familiar to Curtis. He'd run into it several times before, and failing to crack it had cost his team-especially James-a lot, leaving them still hunting for the mastermind behind it all.
Now, as the signal flared up again, Curtis couldn't shake the feeling it might be linked to Mirabella. His fingers hovered over the keyboard, frozen. He tried to tell himself it was a coincidence, that this interference signal had nothing to do with Ms. Mirabella. But he couldn't ignore the thought of her top-notch hacking skills flashing through his mind. For a hacker of her caliber, whipping up an interference device like this would be a walk in the park.
The more Curtis dwelled on it, the more his mind spun. A nearby colleague, seeing him lost in thought, called out, "Jules?"
Curtis snapped out of it. "Hmm?"
"Are you stuck on this interference device too?" the colleague asked, clearly exasperated.
Curtis sighed inwardly and gave a wry smile. "No luck."
If it were someone else behind this, he might have had a shot. After a pause, he admitted the skill gap between him and the hacker. "I'm afraid only whoever created this interference device can crack it."
His colleague wasn't buying it. As one of the top techs in the base, he wasn't about to let this slide. "You're giving them too much credit. We'll crack it; it's just a matter of time."
The techs here were the best of the best, easily outclassing the top-ranked hackers outside the base. He refused to believe he couldn't tackle this.
Curtis just gave him a sideways glance, as if to say, "Really?" If even he was struggling with Ms.
Mirabella, how could someone less skilled think they could pull it off? was almost amusing. Curtisc smirked, deciding to put aside his attempts to crack the program for now. Instead, he focused on covering for Mirabella.
The security chief's phone call hinted that they were already mobilizing to catch her, and even he went after her himself, it wouldn't solve anything. Plus, her friend was tangled up in this too, making it even more important to keep himself under the radar. This update is available on fι?dnοvel.net
Curtis pulled himself together and looked over at the control center. He'd have to find a different way to handle this.
**Meanwhile, over in Section A of the base.
A slim figure was darting down the corridor, still quick but not as fast as ten minutes ago. She turned another corner only to find herself at a dead end. The rapid footsteps behind her were closing in fast.
Nellie's eyes darkened as she spotted the glass wall. Without missing a beat, she whipped out a tool she'd prepared in advance. In a swift, practiced motion, she cut a circle in the glass big enough for her to slip through.
She gave the glass a solid kick, sending it outward, and as her pursuers caught up, she scrambled through the opening. At the same time, she flicked her wrist, sending a thin steel cable sailing upward. The grappling hook at the end latched onto the glass surface with a
satisfying clink.
Nellie let the cable out, using it to gracefully leap down two floors. Her pursuers,
not missing a beat, opened fire, but she was too quick. In the blink of an eye, she was on the second-floor platform, rolling out of sight while they watched, bewildered.
