Chapter 1889
chapter1889
Nestled in the middle of nowhere, Peace Village was a bit of a surprise. With its brick-red walls, green rooftops, and cobblestone lanes, it wasn't the rustic, shabby huts you'd expect from such a remote place. Instead, it looked pretty much like any other village you'd find elsewhere. Read full story at find?novel.net
Right now, though, the place was eerily quiet. Every door was shut tight, and an unnerving silence filled the air. It seemed abandoned, yet there was an unmistakable vibe of life lingering around.
Wyatt, feeling a bit on edge, kept his hand near his hip, ready for anything. The quiet was unsettling, almost like a warning.
Mirabella, unfazed by Wyatt's unease, led the group straight to the last house in the village. The gate was closed just like the others. But as she moved to knock, the door swung open from inside.
The man who opened it looked a bit taken aback to see strangers. His face quickly shifted to one of caution. "Who are you... How'd you get into our village?"
As he spoke, his fingers subtly grazed a hidden circular metal button on the doorframe, keeping it out of sight from those outside.
Mirabella caught onto his move, raised an eyebrow slightly, and replied calmly, "We're friends of Rea. We're here looking for someone."
The mention of Rea's name made the village head's expression shift again. He studied Mirabella for a good while. Although she didn't seem threatening, he kept his tone icy, "There's no Rea here, and we don't welcome outsiders. You should leave."
Mirabella seemed to have expected this, "Could we have a word in private?"
The village head hesitated for a few moments, perhaps swayed by the mention of Rea. He eased his grip on the metal button and stepped aside, "You can come
in."
Mirabella signaled James and Miles
to hang back while she stepped inside. The village head didn't even glance at the others. As soon as she was in he slammed the gate shut clearly not keen on welcoming strangers. Wyatt scratched his nose and muttered, "What an odd character. But who's Rea?"
James narrowed his eyes, not bothering to respond to Wyatt. He remembered when he first met Mirabella's elder friend Nellie, she had called her 'Rea.' So, if he wasn't mistaken, this Rea was Cian, another persona of Mirabella.
She had once saved Nick from the brink of death, a feat probably only the Stevenson family could pull off. Rumors sometimes hold a grain of truth, after all.
Wyatt scanned the little yard in front of him again, and his eyes went wide with surprise. Infrared equipment? In such an unassuming village yard. there was infrared gear? Wyatt rubbed his eyes, wondering if he was just seeing things.
James noticed Wyatt's reaction and gave him a sideways glance, "What?"
"James, look. Isn't that infrared equipment on the gate?" Wyatt pointed at the tiny holes on top of the wooden door, whispering.
Anyone familiar with security devices would spot it in a heartbeat.
"It sure is infrared equipment," Miles spoke up before James could say a word. He stepped forward, tilting his head slightly with a look of intrique xx "But this setup is interesting. It's not quite like the usual stuff you'd find on the market."
