Chapter 1807

chapter1807

Mirabella nodded, fully aware of the tight security at the First Base. Apart from the internal network and at certain times, the whole place was virtually on lockdown, making it nearly impossible to reach the outside world.

She remembered the map she'd sent Curtis earlier that day. He hadn't replied, so she asked, "Did he forget his phone outside?"

"Yeah, why?" James gave her a curious look.

"No reason," Mirabella replied, letting it drop. "How do you guys stay in touch, then?"

James unbuttoned one of his shirt buttons and showed it to her. "With this."

Mirabella took it and studied it for a few moments. "This is pretty neat."

It was a micro-communicator, needing no network or signal. It could send messages as long as you input an effective command within a certain range.

But-

Mirabella tilted her head. "Isn't the First Base a good distance from here? Can it still work?"

James raised an eyebrow and smirked. "You seem to know a lot about the First Base."

Mirabella: "..."

"Our tech team developed a sensor chip. As long as there's a base station, we can connect," James explained.

"So your base stations cover... all of Merrywoods?" Mirabella asked.

James lounged back in his chair. "Pretty much."

Mirabella gave him a sidelong glance. "Pretty much" with a side of modesty, huh?

Just then, the unassuming button in Mirabella's hand buzzed twice.

She glanced down and handed it back to James. "It's responding."

James tapped rhythmically on the button, then connected it to his phone. Curtis's low voice came through, "James, you needed something?"

James looked at Mirabella and switched to speakerphone. "Anything unusual happening at the First Base today?"

Curtis, still on edge, glanced around before quickly replying, "Nothing out of the ordinary."

Hearing Curtis's words, Mirabella felt a bit relieved.

It seemed like Nellie went in prepared and wouldn't face any immediate danger.

Still, her unusual behavior was unsettling. Mirabella thought for a moment, then said, "I have a friend inside First Base. She might head to the central core area keep an eye out for her okay? '

Curtis seemed taken aback to hear Mirabella's voice but quickly agreed, "Alright, Ms. Mirabella, I'll keep watch."

Footsteps echoed faintly in the background. Curtis's eyes narrowed as he pressed the button on his. collar. "I'm short on time here, Miss. Mirabella. We'll talk later."

With that, the call ended abruptly.

As the disconnect tone sounded, James slowly put away his phone and looked at Mirabella. "Seems like your friend is safe for now."

Mirabella's fingers intertwined, gently rubbing her hands together. After a moment, she spoke, "I still need to go there myself." Get full chapters from FindN()vel.net

**At the First Base.**

Curtis had just ended the call when the door swung open.

"Jules? What are you doing here?" The head of the tech department paused, surprised to see Curtis in the office.

Curtis stayed calm, though he

lowered his gaze slightly upon seeing who was with the

department head. Pulling out his prepared excuse, he said, "care to
