Chapter 1836
chapter1836
Dan glanced cautiously at Mirabella, sensing a subtle undercurrent of danger in the air.
Mirabella regained her composure, the smile from moments before disappearing as if it had never existed. She reassured him, "The Ravenshade deal will go off without a hitch. You don't need to worry."
Her calm voice worked like magic on Dan's nerves, soothing the anxiety that had been gnawing at him for days. He let out a sigh and earnestly promised, "Whatever happens, I'll give it my all to help you see this through."
Mirabella realized Dan wasn't entirely convinced, but she chose not to elaborate. "I'm grateful for your effort."
"Just doing my job, Miss Mira. No need to thank me." Dan nodded. He didn't linger at the Davis Estate and soon made his way out.
Just as he stepped outside, someone called after him.
"Our lady would like a word," announced a servant from Melissa's entourage.
Dan paused, glancing in the direction indicated by the servant, then decided to follow.
Penelope had left early that morning, so Melissa was the only one home. When Dan was brought in, she was busy arranging flowers in the lounge.
"Is there something you need from me, ma'am?" he asked.
Melissa, with her graceful demeanor, continued her floral arranging, barely glancing at Dan. "I'd like to ask you a favor."
Dan's eyes narrowed slightly. "Please, go ahead."
"What's your take on late-blooming roses?" Melissa asked, casually yet pointedly.
"Miss Penelope is smart, capable, and undoubtedly a standout among her peers," Dan replied honestly.
Melissa had heard similar praise about her daughter countless times over the years. Now, she finally looked Dan in the eye with a piercing gaze. "Do you think she'd make a more fitting heir?"
Dan's eyes widened slightly. In that instant of eye contact, he understood what Melissa was hinting at.
Only one person could be the heir, so... Dan offered a diplomatic smile. "Hard to say right now, as the evaluations aren't finished."
Melissa caught the evasiveness in his tone and smiled knowingly. "Isn't the outcome clear?"
Dan remained silent.
"Smart folks know how to read the room," Melissa remarked casually, picking up
her scissors to trim the flowers in the vase again.
Dan hadn't earned his role as chief executive by just holding a title, and years of working with Keir had instilled a pride that wouldn't let him be intimidated by anyone. His voice turned cold and firm. "If that's aff, ma am, I'll be on my way."
Was he ignoring her advice? Melissa's grip tightened, and a rose fell from her scissors, leaving the stem bare in the vase.
Dan didn't wait for Melissa's response; he turned and strode away, soon disappearing from view.
Fuming, Melissa knocked over the vase, shattering it on the floor. "Ungrateful! Who does he think he is?"

After her meeting with Dan, Mirabella, pondering the information she'd picked up from The Mirros the day before, headed to James's villa.
Curtis and Wyatt were there as well.
"What did you want to talk about?" James asked Mirabella.
Mirabella nodded, purposely avoiding Wyatt's gaze, and slowly said "I'm quite intrigued by that treasure you

Curtis suddenly choked on his drink at her words. "Cough, cough..."
