Chapter 1844

chapter1844

"No one really noticed, but he might have headed to the back hall," someone replied.

Mr. Maverick was keeping his true identity under wraps with the archaeology team, so everyone just called him Maverick.

"And it looks like James and his group are missing too."

Finally realizing they were short a few people, the team paused their examination of the artifacts in the main hall and exchanged worried looks.

Just as they were about to start searching for the missing members, the tremor they thought was subsiding suddenly ramped up, ending in a massive rumble from below that shook the entire palace violently.

The team almost lost their footing from the tremors.

The shaking continued, with chunks of plaster falling from above, making it seem like the whole place might collapse.

"This is bad, someone must have triggered something, it's going to cave in," said one of the geologists, his face pale with fear.

At that moment, a deep voice cut through the chaos, "Let's move, get out of here now."

Mr. Maverick appeared out of nowhere, urging everyone to leave quickly, striding swiftly towards the exit.

This wasn't your typical ancient tomb; it was a palace suspended mid-air. If it caved in, it would drop straight down.

Seeing this, the others quickly gave up on searching and hustled after Mr. Maverick as fast as they could.

In those few seconds, no one noticed that the floating palace had already sunk several inches, and the iron bridge leading outside was swinging wildly.

Meanwhile, James, still inside the palace, was trying to contact Mirabella with his communicator while searching for a way out in the side hall.

Even with the increasing tremors, the noticeable sinking of the ground, and Curtis's frantic voice in hise James stayed calm mot even thinking of leaving first.

After another half-minute, the stone walls in the side hall began to crack. James finally found the vase mechanism in the corner. Just as he was about to turn it, a wall suddenly Spun open. Mirabella dashed out paused just a moment when she

saw James, then grabbed his arm. "Come on, the self-destruct has been triggered, it's going down."

With stones falling around them, James didn't say a word. He pulled Mirabella close, Protecting her from the debris, and rushed to the exit at full speed.

The palace's descent had sped up dramatically, and on the iron bridge, the archaeology team was only halfway across.

With all the shaking, keeping balance was tough, slowing them down a lot.

Curtis and Wyatt, already on the other side, initially wanted to help, but seeing the bridge sinking, they stopped.

They knew adding more weight would make the bridge sink faster.

But James and Mirabella hadn't made it out yet.

They couldn't risk cutting off James and Mirabella's escape, not even for a second.

Wyatt clenched his fists, his heart pounding.

Finally, at the far end of the bridge, James and Mirabella appeared, sprinting onto the iron bridge without even a moment to secure the safety harness.

Wyatt, eyes wide with urgency, shouted to his team, "Quick, pull the bridge up!"

At the rate the bridge was going down, it looked like it might plunge into the murky lake below before Mirabella and James could get across.

They were running out of time.
