Chapter 1846
chapter1846
The survey expert, though a bit puzzled by the comment, kept his cool and just let out a soft sigh. "What a shame."
Mr. Maverick didn't say a word. Instead, he turned his attention to the car window, spotting another SUV cruising right alongside theirs. He paused for a moment.
The other car had its rear window rolled down, and he could make out a silhouette inside. This update is available on FιndNovel.net
After a quick glance, Mr. Maverick looked away, his fingers idly twisting together before he finally responded to the survey expert's earlier remark. "The underground chamber's collapsed. Whether there was a meteorite or not doesn't matter anymore."
The survey expert paused, sensing there was more to Mr. Maverick's words than what was on the surface.
*Inside the car.*
Mirabella finished checking James's shoulder wound, feeling a wave of unease. She rested her hand on the rolled-down window frame, letting the breeze cool her face.
The scene in the underground chamber kept replaying in her mind, unsettling her.
James buttoned up his coat and noticed her troubled expression. After thinking for a moment, he gently took her clenched fist, unfurling her fingers one by one. "Just a scratch."
Mirabella turned to meet his deep gaze, her worries gradually fading.
She exhaled, dropping her eyes to watch James smooth out her fingers.
A smile crept onto her face, and the last of her unease disappeared.
"Is Trevor alright?" Mirabella asked.
James hesitated, glancing at Wyatt, who was driving. "He should be, right?"
Mirabella raised an eyebrow. "Should be?"
Wyatt caught their exchange in the rearview mirror and quickly
reassured them, "Trevor's fine.
Curtis got him out before the chamber collapsed. Hearing this,
Mirabella felt relieved.
James turned to Mirabella. "Did you find what you were looking for?"
Despite her claims of being
interested in the treasure, from the moment she stepped into the chamber her eyes never showed any curiosity about it it was clear she wasn't there for the treasure.
Mirabella paused for a few seconds, then pulled something from her pocket and casually slipped it into James's hand. "Yeah, you hang onto this for me."
James felt a cool sensation in his palm and looked down to see a piece of dull black jade.
Its shape seemed oddly familiar, resembling the white jade that Catherine had left for Mirabella. This black jade looked like a mirror image of the white one.
If the two pieces were put together, they might fit perfectly.
Shaking off this strange thought, James looked back at Mirabella. "Does this jade have anything to do with the floating palace?"
"Could be some kind of energy source?" Mirabella shrugged, being upfront.
"When I took it out, the floating palace's self-destruct mechanism kicked in."
James frowned, studying the black jade more closely. "Could this be the meteorite the archaeological team mentioned?"
"A meteorite?" Mirabella was surprised. If this was a meteorite, then wouldn't her white jade be one too? "It's just a theory. If you don't mind, you could show it to my dad. He might be able to tell if it's a meteorite, James suggested calmly.
Mirabella didn't nod, but she suddenly asked, "You mentioned the archaeological
team. Were they in the chamber looking for a meteorite?"
