Chapter 107
Richard's Shock
Richard's pupils constricted violently. His phone nearly slipped from his grasp.
He stood frozen, his breath catching for several seconds.
"Leonard, this... this isn't some kind of joke, is it?" His voice trembled unmistakably.
Leonard's resolute reply came through the phone: "Would I joke about something like this?"
The phone slowly lowered from Richard's hand. His gaze toward Sophia shifted completely.
William noticed his father's strange demeanor and asked urgently, "Dad, what did Uncle Leonard say?"
Richard snapped back to reality.
He stared at Sophia, his voice hoarse. "Pearl Group... is yours?"
"What a joke!" William scoffed. "How could she possibly—"
"Silence!" Richard cut him off sharply.
Sophia set down her fork gracefully and dabbed her lips with a napkin.
"It is," she said calmly, her expression unreadable.
Richard staggered back two steps, bracing himself against the dining table to steady himself.
William's face turned deathly pale.
"You're lying!" he shrieked hysterically. "How old were you when Pearl Group was founded?"
Oliver burst into laughter beside them.
"Master William, just because you're incompetent doesn't mean everyone else is."
William was about to lash out when his father yanked him back.
"Your Uncle Leonard confirmed it himself," Richard said, his voice rasping. "Sophia is indeed the founder of Pearl Group."
The words hit William like a sledgehammer, leaving him dizzy.
He gaped at Sophia, his lips trembling soundlessly.
Every taunt and threat he'd ever thrown at her now seemed like the most pathetic joke.
Richard opened his mouth, then closed it, his expression unbearably complex.
Sophia couldn't even be bothered to glance their way.
She focused on savoring the meal before her, every movement poised and deliberate.
Since deciding to keep the baby, she'd felt an unexpected lightness.
This child would become her most precious family in this world.
