Chapter 285

Night fell as city lights flickered to life.

Adrian Valdemar jolted awake from a chaotic dream, beads of sweat forming at his temples. He had dreamed of being trapped in that dark storage room again, surrounded by classmates' mocking laughter.

The sudden ringtone shattered the silence.

"Adrian, everyone's waiting. Where are you?" Director Chen's voice crackled through the receiver.

Adrian rubbed his temples. "On my way."

He hung up and checked the time. Outside, the city was already illuminated.

The private club was located in the suburbs. When Adrian pushed open the door, the private room buzzed with clinking glasses and boisterous chatter.

Nearly the entire "Love You Forever" cast had gathered.

"Adrian's here!" someone called out warmly.

Adrian paused. These fresh-faced actors' eyes held none of the calculation or flattery he was accustomed to.

"Sit here!" A ponytailed girl waved at him.

As Adrian moved to join her, Director Chen intercepted him.

"Adrian, we need to talk." The director slung an arm around his shoulders. "Sit by me."

Murmurs of agreement rose around them.

"Clear the air already."

"Director Chen means well."

Adrian's lips curled into a cold smile. He recognized that predatory gaze—a hunter eyeing trapped prey.

"Sure." He agreed readily.

Triumph flashed in Director Chen's eyes as he handed Adrian a glass of baijiu.

"My apologies. Let this drink make amends."

Adrian accepted the glass, fingertips tracing its rim.

Director Chen raised his orange juice. "Cheers."

His smile widened as he watched Adrian's untouched drink.
