Chapter 313

Sophia Laurent left Alexander Valdemar's hospital room and went straight to the building where Margaret Delaney was staying.

She first consulted the attending physician.

"The patient has shown frequent brainwave activity recently, with clear signs of awakening," the doctor said, flipping through the medical records.

Sophia's eyes lit up.

During her time at the Lowell family estate, Margaret had given her the maternal love she had been missing.

She remembered when she first got her period—Margaret had patiently taught her how to use sanitary pads.

"Aunt Margaret, Sophia is about to start her internship," Sophia murmured softly by the bedside.

She held Margaret's wrinkled hand.

"The company is hosting a design competition, and Sophia will participate," she continued gently. "If you wake up, you can go see her in person."

The figure on the bed suddenly twitched a finger.

Sophia was talking about Sophia's design talent when she felt a tug on her sleeve.

She looked down to see Margaret gripping the fabric of her shirt.

"Aunt Margaret!" Sophia gasped.

The woman on the bed slowly opened her eyes.

Sophia reached for the call button in excitement, but Margaret stopped her.

Margaret's lips trembled as if she wanted to speak.

"Don't rush. Take your time," Sophia leaned in closer.

The room was so quiet the sound of the IV drip could be heard.

"It... was... a scheme..." Margaret's voice was barely audible. "The switch... was intentional..."

Sophia's pupils constricted.

"You mean, my being switched at birth was planned?"

Margaret nodded weakly.

The motion drained the last of her strength.

Sophia's expression turned icy in an instant.

If this was true, then Emily Lowell and her family were the masterminds.

"Your adoptive mother's... sister..." Margaret spoke haltingly. "She used to... work as a maid... for the Lowells..."

The words struck Sophia like a bolt of lightning.
