Chapter 148
Melanie's fingers trembled slightly as the script rustled in her grasp.
"President Laurent... which role is Scarlett auditioning for?"
She immediately noticed the shift in Sophia's demeanor, from the way she addressed her to her commanding presence.
Sophia's lips curved slightly at the title, offering no correction.
"The female lead. Xiao Yuezhen."
Melanie's pupils constricted. "The... female lead?"
She had expected, at most, a supporting role opportunity.
After all, Scarlett was still a newcomer.
For a moment, she wondered if she'd misheard.
Sophia chuckled, her gaze unwavering.
"Exactly. The female lead."
She hadn't invested heavily in recruiting talent just to cultivate extras.
Returns were expected from her investments.
Melanie and Scarlett exchanged glances, mutual astonishment reflected in their eyes.
After a brief silence, Melanie drew a deep breath.
"Understood. We'll prepare immediately."
Sophia gave a slight nod. "The studio has already made arrangements."
In the underground parking garage, Julian Lombardi leaned heavily against the wall, unable to straighten up.
His hands shook as he dialed his assistant's number.
When the assistant arrived, the sight before him made him gasp.
"Mr. Lombardi, what happened—"
"Shut up... damn it..."
Speaking sent sharp pain through Julian's injuries.
"Just take me to the hospital."
The assistant didn't dare ask further questions and hurried to bring the car around.
In the hospital corridor, the assistant finally got a clear look at Julian's battered state.
"My God! Who did this to you?"
Julian wordlessly pulled a face mask over his bruised features.
After the examination, the doctor adjusted his glasses.
"Mr. Lombardi, these are only minor injuries. They don't meet the standard for legal assault charges."
Julian's head snapped up. "What did you say?"
"The results are conclusive."
The doctor handed him the report calmly. "You're welcome to seek a second opinion elsewhere."
Frustrated, Julian visited three different hospitals.
All delivered the same verdict.
Clenching his fists, he had no choice but to accept it.
