Chapter 314
Margaret's trembling lips parted slightly. Sophia caught several key words.
"You mean...Emily's biological aunt?"
The elderly woman on the hospital bed nodded weakly, a glimmer of relief flashing in her clouded eyes.
Sophia clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms.
"So it was a premeditated switch all those years ago?"
Margaret's breathing grew labored, her skeletal fingers twitching.
Sophia immediately pressed the call button.
"Don't exert yourself. I'll get the doctor."
In the hallway, Sophia leaned against the cold wall as fragmented memories flooded her mind.
Adrian found her staring blankly out the window.
"Sophia?"
He'd approached quietly but froze when he saw her expression.
The icy glint hadn't faded from Sophia's eyes when she turned.
"Find someone," she said tersely. "Emily's maternal aunt."
Adrian understood instantly, pulling out his phone to make a call.
During the car ride home, Sophia's phone lit up.
"Sophia dear..."
Victoria's voice dripped with uncharacteristic sweetness.
"Come home for dinner tomorrow? I'll cook personally."
A cold smile curled Sophia's lips.
"Sure."
Her immediate agreement seemed to startle the woman on the other end.
"What...what would you like to eat?"
"Leftovers will do," Sophia said lightly. "I often had nothing to eat as a child."
A sharp intake of breath came through the phone.
Hanging up, Sophia watched the scenery blur past the car window.
Tomorrow's dinner would be interesting. She couldn't wait to see what new performance the Lowells had prepared.
