Chapter 144

Derek Langley slammed his hands on the desk and stood abruptly. "Scarlett, do you have any idea how much the breach fee is?"

His face was livid as he glared at the two women before him.

Tiffany Merouin stood with her arms crossed, a mocking smirk playing on her lips.

"Mr. Langley, where would they get the money to pay the penalty?" she said in a snarky tone. "They're just putting on an act."

She turned to Melanie and Scarlett. "If you know what's good for you, apologize now. Maybe Mr. Langley will show mercy..."

Derek nodded in satisfaction.

"There's still time to make this right."

Melanie scoffed. "Working with people like you disgusts me."

"Exactly," Scarlett said, straightening her posture. "You're the cancer of this company—bullying others and lining your own pockets..."

Her sharp gaze swept over Derek. "I have no idea how someone like you got into this position."

Derek's face flushed red with rage.

"Seems I've been too lenient," he hissed through clenched teeth. "You're really determined to ruin yourselves?"

"Tch."

Melanie didn't bother wasting words. She grabbed Scarlett's hand. "Let's go."

Without a backward glance, the two strode toward the exit.

Derek and Tiffany exchanged a look before hurrying after them.

In the HR department, the director immediately approached Derek.

"Mr. Langley, what brings you here?"

Tiffany pointed triumphantly at Melanie and Scarlett. "They want to terminate their contracts. Show them the paperwork."

She sneered. "Let them see the reality."

The HR director looked at Melanie in surprise.

As a long-time employee, she understood Melanie's predicament but was powerless to help.

"You... really want to terminate?" she asked hesitantly.

Scarlett's breach fee was no small amount.

Melanie nodded firmly. "Yes."

The HR director's expression turned grave as she retrieved the contract.
