Chapter 117
That woman was utterly unyielding now. Getting her to relent was harder than scaling the heavens.
William Lowell took a long moment to collect himself before exhaling sharply. "What madness possessed Christopher to provoke Sophia?"
His assistant caught the edge of displeasure in his voice and discreetly glanced at the delicate Emily in the backseat.
"Third Young Master heard about Sophia's recent actions and intended to advise her to show restraint," the assistant chose his words carefully. "But Sophia not only refused to listen, she insulted him. In the heat of the moment, he vandalized Pearl Group..."
A vein throbbed at William's temple.
Just hearing the name "Sophia" triggered a headache now.
"Enough. I'll handle it." He massaged his forehead. "Tell Christopher to stay away from Sophia from now on."
That woman was like a bristling cat now—untouchable.
But no matter how troublesome she was, she couldn't possibly cause real waves.
The turmoil at Valdemar Group was escalating. Sooner or later, it would reach her.
And then...
Though puzzled, the assistant nodded. "Understood. I'll relay your message."
After hanging up, William dialed another number.
"Commissioner Woods, long time no see." His tone was familiar, almost jovial.
A hearty laugh came through the line. "Thanks to you, I'm doing well."
"When are you free for a drink? My treat."
"Ah, my health hasn't been great lately. Can't handle alcohol these days."
After some small talk, William got to the point. "Truth be told, I have a favor to ask..."
The line went silent for two seconds.
"This is about your brother, isn't it?" Commissioner Woods' chuckle carried understanding.
William didn't deny it. "Youngsters act rashly. I hope you can overlook this. I'll personally bring him to apologize."
"No need for apologies."
The Commissioner's voice turned stern. "We're law-abiding citizens. Illegal activities mustn't be tolerated, don't you agree?"
"Of course, you're absolutely right."
William forced a laugh while mentally cursing Christopher to hell.
Of all people, why provoke Sophia?
That woman was all thorns now—impossible to touch.
"Ah..."
Commissioner Woods sighed heavily. "It's not that I won't help you, but this time it's truly impossible. Perhaps... try someone else?"
William's heart skipped a beat.
For someone of the Commissioner's standing, bailing someone out over minor vandalism should've been effortless.
"This..."
Sensing his shock, Commissioner Woods lowered his voice. "Your brother kicked an iron plate this time. Orders came directly from above—due process must be followed. No exceptions."
