Chapter 204
Henry Chamberlain hurried toward Alexander Valdemar's hospital room after bidding farewell to Sophia Laurent.
As Alexander's personal assistant, the security staff recognized him immediately and granted access without question.
When he pushed the door open, he found Alexander reclining against the raised hospital bed, his phone screen illuminated.
Sophia's clear voice filled the room.
"Good afternoon, members of the press. I am Alexander Valdemar's wife."
"Regarding his condition, we have never lost hope."
"Valdemar Holdings will continue normal operations. My grandfather-in-law and I will safeguard everything he's built."
"I believe he will wake up."
"Because he is the most extraordinary man I've ever known."
Henry held his breath.
The usually vigilant CEO hadn't noticed his arrival.
Even after the video ended, Alexander remained motionless.
Henry cleared his throat.
"Mr. Valdemar is handsome, brilliant..."
He deliberately mimicked Sophia's tone.
Alexander's sharp gaze snapped toward him.
A chill ran down Henry's spine.
But curiosity got the better of him.
"Sir, were you and Ms. Laurent acquainted before?"
Alexander's expression shifted slightly.
"Barely."
Their paths had crossed before.
The Patriarch had mentioned matters concerning Lowell Entertainment.
He remembered the competent chief secretary from their brief interactions.
But marriage had never crossed his mind.
Henry's eyes widened.
"But the way Ms. Laurent looked at you—"
Alexander's brows furrowed.
His original plan had been to dissolve this marriage upon recovery.
Yet Sophia's actions defied expectations.
With the Patriarch ill and Vincent Valdemar circling like a vulture, she'd stepped forward despite knowing the reporters would attack.
The image of her resolute expression in the video flashed through his mind. He closed his eyes briefly.
If she had ulterior motives, this would be simpler.
Henry recognized his superior's hesitation.
He couldn't help defending Sophia.
"Sir, Ms. Laurent truly embodies what a Mrs. Valdemar should be."
"You should have seen how she silenced those reporters—"
"Enough." Alexander's icy tone cut through the air.
He'd watched every second of that press conference.
"...Understood."
