Chapter 233
Adrian Valdemar's back stiffened.
Sophia Laurent couldn't stop the momentum of her wooden stick in time.
A sharp crack echoed through the air.
The stick landed squarely across Adrian's back.
"Damn—" He sucked in a sharp breath.
Whirling around, his eyes burned with fury. "Did you do that on purpose?"
Sophia sheepishly withdrew her hand. "I thought you'd dodge..."
Adrian gritted his teeth. "How could I?"
She blinked. "Should we... go to the infirmary?"
"No." His refusal was absolute.
"Why not?"
"Too embarrassing."
Sophia burst into laughter. "So, will you take the role of the Young Marquis in Empress?"
Adrian frowned. "Can I choose another character?"
He was afraid he'd ruin the production.
Sophia shook her head. "Not an option."
Adrian glared. "Then why even ask?"
She shrugged. "Just for formality's sake."
He scoffed. "Should I thank you?"
"You're welcome."
Adrian was too furious to speak.
"Sophia!"
A booming voice interrupted them.
Director Lucas Sheridan strode over, squinting at the pair. "What are you two doing out here in this heat?"
His gaze shifted to Adrian. "And you are...?"
Sophia arched a brow. "Seriously don't recognize him?"
Lucas studied Adrian again before shaking his head.
Adrian instinctively straightened his posture—then winced in pain.
Sophia suppressed a smirk. "This is Adrian Valdemar."
"Adrian?" Lucas smacked his forehead. "Now I remember!"
"A couple years back during that variety show, the producer mentioned wanting you!"
"Too bad my show was a flop..."
Adrian's ears turned pink. "Nice to meet you, Director Sheridan."
Lucas shook his hand enthusiastically. "The pleasure's mine!"
Adrian was visibly flustered by the warm reception.
