Chapter 258

Adrian Valdemar's pupils contracted slightly when his gaze landed on Sophia Laurent.

The video footage hadn't done her justice.

She stood beneath the crystal chandelier, her skin like porcelain, features exquisitely painted.

"Thank you, sister-in-law." Adrian heard the slight tension in his own voice.

Sophia's lips curved as her eyes flicked toward Alexander. "Take notes."

Alexander snorted, shoving his hands into his pockets.

He'd deliberately remained silent all evening, waiting for this spectacle.

The housekeeper appeared at the perfect moment. "Dinner is served, madam."

Sophia touched her empty stomach. "Let's eat."

At the dining table, she focused entirely on the gourmet dishes before her.

Alexander suddenly sneered. "You eat like a starving stray."

Julian frowned. "Brother!"

"Does my eating bother you?" Sophia dabbed her lips with deliberate slowness. "Or is Second Young Master Valdemar simply bored?"

Alexander's face darkened. "I'm thinking of the family's reputation!"

"The Valdemar name," Sophia chuckled, "was already ruined by you."

Alexander nearly erupted until he caught Julian's puzzled expression.

He instantly switched tones. "Just joking. Sister-in-law is the most gracious."

Sophia watched his performance with cold detachment.

The lighting cast soft shadows from her long lashes, lending her an unexpected gentleness.

Julian nodded to himself. This sister-in-law seemed genuinely pleasant.

Sophia continued eating while observing both men from the corner of her eye.

Alexander's unusual behavior tonight undoubtedly involved this younger brother.

"I'm finished." She set down her utensils.

As expected, Julian spoke urgently. "Sister-in-law, actually I need to ask a favor..."
