Chapter 358
Adrian Valdemar was chattering nonstop when Alexander's sudden words froze him in place.
His eyes widened in disbelief.
"Brother, have you lost your mind?"
Adrian's voice rose sharply, drawing curious glances from the surrounding staff.
Alexander gave him an icy look. "We were never close."
The coldness in his gaze sent a chill down Adrian's spine.
Spotting Sophia Laurent chatting cheerfully with Patriarch Valdemar, Adrian quickly dragged Alexander into a corner.
"Brother, where else would you find a woman like Sophia?"
Adrian scratched his head anxiously. "She's done so much for the Valdemar family. How can you just divorce her like this?"
Alexander's brow furrowed slightly, irritation flashing in his eyes.
"She initiated it."
This marriage had indeed brought him considerable convenience.
At least Matriarch Valdemar had stopped pestering him about arranged marriages.
Though sudden divorce might invite gossip, he couldn't care less.
"What? Sophia wants out?"
Adrian's expression collapsed instantly.
Leaning closer, he whispered urgently, "Brother, tell me the truth. Is it because of your injury..."
Alexander's glare could freeze hell.
"Or... have you always been... incapable?"
"Looking to die?"
Alexander's eyes turned murderous.
Adrian shrank back, realizing his mistake.
He grabbed Alexander's arm as he turned to leave. "Brother, feelings can develop over time!"
Alexander paused momentarily.
Seizing the opportunity, Adrian pressed on. "Sophia has both talent and beauty. You two are perfect for each other!"
"Since you're already married, can't you at least try?"
Alexander shook him off and walked away without another word.
Adrian stomped his foot in frustration.
He'd already claimed Sophia as his sister-in-law.
He had to find a way to bring them together.
Meanwhile, Patriarch Valdemar was engaged in casual conversation with Sophia.
"We owe you so much this time."
The old man's face radiated warmth.
Sophia smiled gently. "It was my duty."
Having married into the Valdemar family, these responsibilities came naturally.
The Patriarch's approval grew with each passing moment.
Noticing the brothers' interaction in the distance, he abruptly changed topics.
"Sophia, what do you think of Alexander?"
Sophia blinked in surprise.
She offered a polite smile. "Mr. Valdemar is exceptionally capable and conducts himself with perfect decorum..."
As she continued listing compliments, the Patriarch's smile gradually stiffened.
Though every word was positive, something felt distinctly... off.
