Chapter 397

The gangsters lay sprawled on the ground, groaning in pain.

Alexander Valdemar didn't even glance at them as he strode forward.

Sophia Laurent peeked out from the corner. Seeing him leave, she hurried after him.

"Ah!"

A grimy hand suddenly seized her ankle.

Alexander whirled around and kicked the hand away.

Trembling, Sophia clutched his sleeve.

Like a frightened rabbit, she followed him into the hotel suite.

The surveillance footage froze on the moment the door closed.

Sophia stared at her phone screen, fingers shaking slightly.

So that night...

She had willingly followed Alexander into the room?

Her mind went blank.

"I'm sorry."

Alexander's voice was rough. "I was drugged that night."

His Adam's apple bobbed. "I hurt you."

Sophia lowered her lashes. "It wasn't entirely your fault."

She only remembered scorching breaths and the soreness that wracked her body the next morning.

At the time, she'd thought it was just a hangover.

"Why did you leave early?"

"Company emergency." Alexander's eyes darkened. "When I returned, you were already gone."

He paused. "The surveillance footage had been deleted."

"These videos..."

"I had the hotel's system restored." Alexander met her gaze directly. "To find you."

Sophia's ears burned.

In her panic, she hadn't left any contact information behind.

"Take the footage." Alexander's voice softened slightly. "It can clear your name."

Sophia murmured her thanks.

Only the hum of the air conditioner filled the room.

"Can we not divorce?"

Alexander's sudden question made Sophia's cheeks flush. She inched away.

"If it's just a contractual marriage..."

She heard herself say, "Then...we can reconsider."
