Chapter 59

Emily Lowell's eyes brimmed with unshed tears. She bit her lip as she looked at Sophia Laurent. "Nathan has always been so kind to us. Even if you despise me, you shouldn't have said those hurtful things to him... He truly cares about you..."

Nathan Lowell stood nearby, his brow furrowed.

He had to admit Emily was right—blood ties couldn't be severed so easily.

Sophia let out a derisive laugh, her gaze icy. "His kindness to you doesn't extend to me."

Her voice was laced with frost. "And don't flatter yourself. You're beneath my notice."

She'd long seen through Emily's petty schemes and experienced enough of the Lowell family's favoritism.

Now, she wouldn't give Emily another chance.

Nathan suddenly erupted in anger. "Sophia! What have I ever done to wrong you?"

Sophia met his gaze squarely, her eyes sharp.

"Do you genuinely believe you've treated me well?"

She enunciated each word deliberately. "When Emily falsely accused me of stealing her necklace, you forced me to kneel in apology. When she claimed I ruined her dress, you destroyed my art studio. When she had me beaten at school and I came home for help, you slapped me instead..."

Nathan's face gradually paled.

Memories he'd deliberately buried resurfaced with painful clarity.

"Shall I continue?" Sophia's smile was cold.

Even now, for the sake of family interests, they'd unhesitatingly tried to marry her off to a comatose man.

What kind of family was this?

When they'd learned Ethan Winston had abandoned her, their first reaction had been "you must not have been good enough."

Nathan avoided her gaze, his voice unsteady. "I... I didn't know..."

He and Emily had grown up together—naturally, he'd trusted her more.

But now, doubt crept in.

Emily suddenly burst into tears. "Sister, why are you slandering me like this..."

She sobbed dramatically. "If it's because of me, I'm willing to leave the Lowell family..."

Sophia gave her a cold glance. "The truth can't stay buried forever."

Turning back to Nathan, she said, "If you want facts, go investigate for yourself."

With that, she turned to leave.

Adrian Valentine quickly followed. "Composer T, don't waste your breath on them! They're not worth your distress!"

He grinned as he caught up. "I wrote a new song just for you. Want to hear it?"
