Chapter 99

Victoria Lowell remained silent for a long moment before finally relenting.

She sighed softly. "The trial is about to begin. Lend me some money, or mortgage the property to Sophia."

William Lowell frowned deeply. "Mother, did you beg her?"

"I did." Victoria's expression was complicated. "But she was adamant. She won't drop the lawsuit."

She couldn't understand why Sophia had become so heartless.

They were all children she'd raised with her own hands. Why was Sophia making such a fuss?

Richard Lowell snorted coldly. "Then let her sue! I'd like to see if she dares to make her own mother repay the money."

Victoria froze.

Was he expecting her to appear in court herself?

How could she face such humiliation?

For the first time, she saw clearly.

None of the husband and children she'd doted on were willing to help.

They were directors, CEOs, celebrities, designers—yet all pretended to be penniless.

Victoria suddenly missed the days when she could freely use Sophia's credit cards.

Now she finally understood who truly cared for her.

"You want me to be humiliated in court? How could I face society after this?"

William stayed silent.

Nathan Lowell frowned. "Mother, I've been paying hefty breach fees recently. I'm broke."

He also wanted to see if Sophia would follow through.

Richard sneered. "Relax, she won't dare. The Valdemars won't be pleased if this gets out."

Victoria's heart turned to ice.

Her husband wanted her humiliated. Her children all claimed poverty.

The most laughable was Emily Lowell.

With one phone call, she'd turned her sons against her.

How had she never noticed this adopted daughter's cunning before?

Victoria turned and left.

She decided to sell her jewelry and raise the money herself.

At the sanatorium, Sophia apologized to Patriarch Valdemar.

"Grandfather, I'm sorry for disturbing your rest."

The old man waved his hand. "We're family. No need for formalities."

Alexander had been conscious for increasingly longer periods.

What would happen when he fully woke up?
